Irdeto Acquisition Of Denuvo Means Potentially More DRM For Video Games

It has been reported recently that a South African Internet and entertainment company going by the name of Irdeto has acquired Denovu to increase the anti-cheat and anti-piracy tech. This means that the former will conduct research and development to further implement heavier versions of DRM in video games.

According to publication site DSOG it has been reported that Irdeto has announced its acquisition of Denuvo. Moreover, a lot of companies use this “anti-cheat and anti-piracy tech” to prohibit the act of getting a game “illegally” or breezing through a game using cheats, which includes giants such as Electronic Arts (EA), UbiSoft, Square Enix, Warner Bros., and more.

The disclosure of this act was publicized recently and took place on January 1st, 2018 that Denuvo was fully acquired by Irdeto.

According to the publication site, Denuvo will continue to run and operate the same under Irdeto, meaning that no significant changes will take place in regards to Denuvo’s employees. Additionally, jobs in Austria, Poland, Czech Republic and the U.S. will stay intact, but it is noted that they will expand over time.

The site quoted Reinhard Blaukovitsch, Founder and CEO of Denuvo, saying that…

“Irdeto’s global footprint, technology, services and piracy analytics capabilities will help us further expand our market share. We will be better equipped to reach key media and entertainment customers for whom gaming security is becoming increasingly important. Together with Irdeto, our expertise will provide our customers with uniquely powerful security solutions to help them make smarter business decisions.”

The above was followed by Doug Lowther, CEO of Irdeto, who noted that…

“With the global gaming market estimated to be worth $128.5B by 2020, we see tremendous opportunity to harness our nearly 50 years of security expertise to address cybersecurity requirements in the growing gaming market. We are excited about the opportunities that this acquisition creates for both organizations.”

As noted above, Irdeto’s acquisition of Denuvo helps enable both companies to further increase “marketing” for their anti-piracy tech, and allows Denuvo to use software security tech like Cloakware and Cyber-security Services Market Unit’s piracy services/data analytics to bolster solutions for future products.

To sum the above up, running a game using this new tech could mean even longer launch times, slower FPS and a list of other problems that will likely be cracked within days, if not hours.
