Pico Neo VR Headset Partners With Dream VR For 360 Video Support

Pico Interactive announced that they have partnered up with The Dream VR distribution platform to provide gamers and VR enthusiasts with 360 degree VR videos on demand.

This announcement follows closely on the heels of Pico Interactive having revealed the Pico Neo all-in-one VR headset recently, which is one of the highest end VR HMDs set to arrive on the market.

Pico Interactive VP of business development, Paul Viglienzone, explained in the press release…

“With standalone headsets taking over the 2018 market, our lineup of all-in-one headsets is a perfect match to host the Dream VR’s premium original content library.”

The line-up right now includes a variety of channels spanning sports, business, fashion, arts and culture, entertainment and music. The gaming channel hasn’t opened yet on The Dream’s platform, but you can check out what the service has to offer for VR HMDs over on the official Dream website.

Pico Interactive is pushing heavily into the VR market with their high-end HMDs.

So far, VR still hasn’t proven itself to be a viable entertainment avenue for the casual market, despite the high insistence from tech companies pumping lots of money and time into the hardware.

Even some of the top selling software for the HTC Vive or Oculus Rift barely move above 100,000 units. When you compare it to games like PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, there’s a massive gap in market engagement, with PUBG Corporation’s Battle Royale game garnering more than 27 million in global sales. Heck, even indie games like Cuphead have managed to move more than 2 million copies within the span of just months, something that VR games just can’t accomplish.

We’ll see if offering gamers more casual entertainment experiences with something like The Dream VR will change the reception, but I tend to doubt it.

The upcoming Pico Neo wireless headset meanwhile is set to launch for $749.99.
