Downward Spiral: Horus Station, High-Concept Co-op Sci-Fi Thriller Launches This Spring

Finnish development outlet 3rd Eye Studios recently announced that they have a new game in the works called Downward Spiral: Horus Station. It’s being described as a high-concept sci-fi survival game. That’s not a description we used often for video games… well, the “sci-fi survival game” part, yeah; but not the “high-concept” part.

The game is in development for PC and PS4 and is scheduled to release this spring. There will be optional support for the PlayStation VR, Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive.

Gregory Louden, the lead designer of 3rd Eye Studios, had some interesting comparisons to make as far as film influences were considered. In the press release, Louden explained…

“Inspired by 2001: A Space Odyssey, Twin Peaks, and There Will be Blood, Downward Spiral: Horus Station offers a thought-provoking piece of hard sci-fi set in deep space,”

I’m sure you’ve read enough about what the game is like, you’re probably curious to see how it plays. Lucky for you there’s an announcement trailer you can check out below.

The zero-gravity title is about exploring a retro-futuristic space station, in an attempt to find out what went wrong. Typical sci-fi story right? Well, things get a little more in-depth than that as you explore the campaign mode.

And yes, the game features online cooperative multiplayer modes.

There’s also a deathmatch for people who want to do some battle via PvP.

There’s a playable prologue available right now for Downward Spiral, but unfortunately it’s not free. You’ll have to pony up $1.99 over on the Steam store if you want to play test this game. In a way it reminds me a lot of Futuremark Studio’s first-person shooter, Shattered Horizon.

You can look for Downward Spiral: Horus Station to launch digitally this spring for both PS4 and PC, along with support for the PlayStation VR and PC HMDs.
