If you own the original Tomb Raider trilogy on PC, you’ll be able to get your hands on the remastered versions of Tomb Raider 1, Tomb Raider 2 and Tomb Raider 3 for free, according to the port house currently working on the third game in the series.
Realtech VR responded to a gamer who was disappointed with Square Enix over the Chrono Trigger PC port, and lackadaisically quipped about the possibility of realtech VR being forced to remaster the original Tomb Raider games with as poor quality as the Chrono Trigger port. Like the Candyman being summoned through the mirror by a poor white victim, realtech VR hopped into the timeline and explained that they weren’t forced to remaster anything and that they’re currently finishing up the remaster for Tomb Raider 3.
We were not forced to make the port of TR1/TR2 and right now we are working on TR3 port.

TR1-3 remaster for PC are planned for Steam for free and will requires the purchase of the DOS version being sold on Steam (like ZDoom playing Doom games). Also the PC version will supports OpenVR and features a new 3D engine for both 3 games.

That’s right, not only are they working on the remasters but the games will be free for those who already purchased the original games.
Blues pointed to some videos of the remastered versions of the game in action that were posted up over on the realtech VR YouTube channel last April. You can check out the high-resolution footage of the original Tomb Raider below.
Obviously the games still have that old PSX/1990s PC charm to them, so if you were hoping for upgraded graphics and better playability – similar to the Tomb Raider remake that was designed from the ground up in the Unreal Engine 4 – you may as well look elsewhere.
The remasters will support improved SSAO, not that you would really be able to tell, and there are bloom post processing effects added, along with 16x anisotropic texture filtering, and full HD support for 1080p rendering at 60 frames per second, double the render-rate of what the original games ran at on the PSX and PC all those years.
You’ll have to keep your eyes on the Steam page for the Tomb Raider trilogy to know when the remasters become available.
