Spanish game developer, Estudio Àbrego, plans on releasing their JRPG-inspired game Noahmund on Steam for PC starting at some point in the third quarter of 2018.
The game was announced late last year, themed around isometric exploration, and real-time combat gameplay.
Estudio Àbrego based the game on Squaresoft classics like Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy Tactics. There’s also a painterly aesthetic that they’ve tried adapting for the visuals while employing the traditional isometric view that most old-school JRPGs utilized.
The combat is also based around a mixture of tactical real-time mechanics but also adds some layered abilities mirrored after chess. Yes, chess.
You can see what the gameplay for Noahmund is like, along with being able to listen to a small sampling of the soundtrack with the trailer below.
The story is themed around a war between the North and South in the land of Feros. A powerful weapon threatens to destroy everything if it isn’t disasbled, and an agent of the kingdom of Shinn named Galina Angstroud, accompanied by a warrior guardian named Berani Valenti, attempt to travel into the Salaber kingdom’s stronghold in order to destroy the secret weapon.
As mentioned up above, the gameplay in Noahmund is set in real-time, so you’ll have to make your decisions for combat quickly while dealing with incoming attacks from enemies.
You can also set traps, devise flanking maneuvers, and utilize both melee and long-range attacks.
I don’t know how well a game like this will do in today’s market, especially given that it’s starring a female lead, which has become a mark of poison on the market for most games these days. A lot of people see female leads as tools of propaganda from Leftists, and almost 99% of time they’re right.
Whether or not Estudio Àbrego diverts from the sociopolitical agenda depends on how the story plays out in Noahmund.
You can look for the game to launch this fall for PC on Steam. For more info you can visit the official website.
