Praised by Left-wing critics and Social Justice Warriors as a show about proper representation and diversity, IDW Publishing’s Wyonna Earp isn’t quite making ends meet, and the very woke show is now on the verge of going broke, according to the latest reports.
Syfy’s Wyonna Earp has been quite popular with the so-called “progressive” Liberal crowd, oftentimes known as Social Justice Warriors. The show has been praised throughout Liberal media for its “queer” relationships.

However, according to an article published on March 15th, 2019 on The Hollywood Reporter, Wyonna Earp’s small-time popularity among a tiny percentage of viewers and very woke critics isn’t enough to keep the show afloat.
Previously, rights holder IDW was able to bank on the streaming deals in addition to airing the show on Syfy, but now that Netflix is no longer fronting the cash, it looks like Wyonna Earp’s television run could be coming to an end, and now the season 4 production has been brought to a halt due to a lack of finances.
The founder of the hedge fund, ADW, which holds a 9% stake in IDW Media Holdings, told the Hollywood Reporter that if they don’t secure an international deal for Wyonna Earp, they would end up losing money by heading into production for a fourth or fifth season, saying…
“There’s certainly value, but I think the way you have to think about it is, is it worth making Wynonna Earp and taking the risk that you don’t sell out the international, right? How do we justify making season four and five if we know we’re going to lose money? IDW is working very, very hard to try and sell up the international windows so they can limit the amount of risk. The company wants to make Wynonna Earp.”
Fans of the series have been attempting to take to social media to make their voices heard where most casual fans don’t care. They’ve also opted to buy billboards to advertise the show to increase ratings, with Bonnie Ferrar, the president of the Ferrar Copywriters and manager of a Twitter account with only 25,000 followers, telling the Hollywood Reporter…
“It has always felt like we were all in it together, building this incredible community with the cast, the showrunner, the writers, the crew and everyone involved in this show. It is lightning in a bottle and we all know it and none of us are ready for the ride to end.
“[…] Sometimes it can feel like tweeting and emailing isn’t enough. So, one Earper decided to take our infamous ‘polite no chill’ to the next level. NYC Earpers have come out in packs to hold signs, film the billboards and fight for the show we love. Their coverage has enabled other fans to stay involved and included in this fight — no matter where they are in the world.”
At the end of the day, protests and billboards don’t mean anything if it can’t pay for production.
Wyden offered fans a simple piece of advice: try to convince platform holders to pick up the international rights to the show.
Wyden explained that without a big name streamer like Netflix or Amazon or Hulu stepping in to foot the production bill via acquiring the international licensing rights, the show likely isn’t coming back…
“Someone’s got to pick up the tab. I suspect people at IDW are working hard on it, but the question is, if Amazon, Netflix or whoever don’t want to buy the international window, how can you expect IDW to say, ‘OK, we didn’t sell season three international, but, by the way, we’ll make season four and five.’ It doesn’t work like that. It needs to get sold.
“I think if all these Wynonna Earp people really want it to come back, they should be emailing Netflix and saying, ‘Pick up the international rights,’”
For those not in the know, Wyonna Earp is a female-led show that focuses heavily on its “queer” relationships. It picked up a tiny but vocal audience who are intent on keeping the show alive. The whole LGBTQ, woke, SJW appeasement has been pushed heavily by Syfy, with the YouTube channel even promoting how woke the show is by airing clips of one of the lesbian couples.
Apparently outside of the small but vocal minority who hound publishers, creators, and anyone who doesn’t adopt the SJW mentality, Wyonna Earp doesn’t have much of a following.
Netflix is typically quick to support shows that SJWs consider to be woke, but if the long game is about making profit and keeping people paying for a product on a monthly basis, they’ve probably wizened up and realized that certain shows, no matter how “progressive” they look in the eyes of Liberals, just may not justify the expenses of keeping them on the platform.
Wyonna Earp‘s fourth season production has already been waylaid until IDW can land an international deal, but it doesn’t look good so far.
If push comes to shove Wyonna Earp‘s next big trip will be on the Get Woke; Go Broke Master List.
