App Will Reportedly Let You Check If Your Girlfriend Has Ever Been In Porn

A Chinese programmer from Germany, going by the handle BuriedInMemory, is currently working on an app that will reportedly allow people to search through more than 100,000 female porn stars and models to see if their girlfriend has ever starred in any naughty flicks or photo shoots.

The news went viral courtesy of a Yale student, Yinqin Fu, who tweeted out an English translation picked up from the Weibo post of programmer BuriedInMemory. The tweet was posted on May 27th, 2019, and quickly went viral.

A Germany-based Chinese programmer said he and some friends have identified 100k porn actresses from around the world, cross-referencing faces in porn videos with social media profile pictures. The goal is to help others check whether their girlfriends ever acted in those films. pic.twitter.com/TOuUBTqXOP

Of the 1,000 or so comments, most express excitement about the service. The most up-voted comment asks if the OP plans on identifying the men in porn videos. “A true blessing for us credulous programmers. When can we use it?” another read. pic.twitter.com/4kjAEmmefg

The OP was asked whether he knew what sort of legal jeopardy he could be in. He said everything he did was legal because 1) he hasn’t shared any data, 2) he hasn’t opened up the database to outside queries, and 3) sex work is legal in Germany, where he’s based. pic.twitter.com/XhMc29wRhn

According to SexTechGuide.com, this started as an evolution on tech designed to help remove revenge porn, but it obviously serves some other uses as well, where they explain…

“BuriedInMemory explained that its intended use is as a facial recognition algorithm (something China has been pretty big on for a while now) to find and remove revenge porn, and that the private data would never be publicly released.

“He also told us that “some 0ldsch00l [sic] hacker developed this programme”, and that he was simply using it.

“On top of this, he also says he recognizes that getting revenge porn removed is an uphill battle, and can take a long time. The software, he says, is to help people build evidence in such cases, and includes a sample DMCA takedown letter to point people in the right direction of the next steps.”

Typically, there are Social Justice-oriented websites that are already criticizing the developer for orienting the app around finding out if your current girlfriend, wife, or significant other is a porn star. Outlets like The Sun labeled BuriedInMemory as “pervy”, with the headline stating “Pervy techies create app to ‘check if their girlfriends have ever been in porn’ by scanning thousands of filthy flicks”. They mostly captured tweets from critics who were opposed to the idea, writing…

“He’s received widespread criticism, with some branding him a “creep”.

“’This is disgusting and terrifying,’ one Twitter user wrote.”

Others are excited for the possibility of making use of the app to see if it works as promised.

Obviously there are some privacy concerns attached to the app, and that might be one of the biggest hurdles that it could face if it ever does release.

However, I’m sure there will be plenty of boyfriends and happy husbands out there willing to test it out to see if their significant other was ever evolved in the business of turning over their chastity for some salaciously-earned silver.
