Stadia's 4K 60fps Streaming Option Will Zap 1TB In 65 Hours

ccording to some recent reports following the pricing details and software service line-up for the Google Stadia, we know how much game time you’ll be able to get out of the service at 4K resolutions and 60 frames per second before hitting 1 terabyte worth of data: A little under 65 hours… more like 63 hours to be exact.

PC Gamer is reporting that the Stadia will require a bitrate of 35 megabits per second , which they converted to around 65 hours worth of content before hitting 1TB. Technically it’s around 63 hours hitting the 1TB cap at about 15.75 gigabyte per hour.

If there are any Stadia shills out there (and Google would have to be paying them six figures to shill for that piece of crap) they might try to say that 65 hours worth of game time at 1TB data usage isn’t that bad. However, even PC Gamer had to point out that most data caps are locked at 1TB, and every time you go over that cap they charge you $10 for every 50GB in overage fees, until you hit a $200 overage fee cap.

Alternatively you can pay $50 extra to unlock the data caps for unlimited bandwidth usage each month. Even PC Gamer’s Jarred Walton had to acknowledge that the cap is a rip off because if you don’t go over the 1TB limit you just paid $50 extra for nothing.

Tom’s Hardware reached out for comment from Google, and they simply saied they would have more to share closer to Stadia’s launch, dodging any attempt to clarify the report or data consumption rates.

Now Stadia shills might run with the argument that you don’t have to play games at 60fps and 4K. Well, that’s true… but you still consume 9GB per hour at 1080p and 4.5GB per hour at 720p. So to put this into perspective, it would still cost you your entire month’s data cap playing 112 hours worth of gaming on Stadia at 1080p and 60fps. And at 720p, it would take you just under 225 hours to hit the cap. So that’s still a week and a half’s worth of constant streaming at 720p to run out of 1TB worth of data.

While some people might think that it would be impossible to burn through that much data within a month – and that’s not including using the internet for other common tasks like memes on social media, cringe compilations on YouTube, or your regularly intake of HD porn and high-quality Pixv images – if you have multiple people in the household then you’re going to run out of bandwidth faster than Larry Nassar became someone’s anal repository for unfiltered seminal excretions in prison.

I have no idea why anyone would even want to pay for a service like Google Stadia given that you don’t own any of the games, if Google’s services are down then you can’t play your games, and if you say some mean words on your Google account they can restrict you from accessing your games. Oh, and that’s not to mention that there won’t be any sexy-time games available on the Stadia.

There is literally zero benefit to using the Google Stadia, and I have no idea why anyone would be excited to use such an anti-consumer service.
