The abominable new iteration of Wolfenstein continues, and the next installment will use Denuvo DRM. Yes, Wolfenstein: Youngblood will hit PC and home consoles, where the former platform will come front-loaded with the digital rights management anti-tamper tech at launch.
If you don’t know, and I don’t blame you for not knowing, Wolfenstein: Youngblood is billed to be the first modern co-op Wolfenstein game where you (and another person) can play one of B.J. Blazkowicz’s twin daughters in an attempt to find their dad and liberate Paris.
The game is currently set to release late next month (July) and will hit a myriad of platforms, one of which happens to be PC. According to publication site DSOG, the trio that is MachineGames, Arkane Studios, and Bethesda Softworks will lay down the Denuvo tech on the game that is presumed to be DOA:
“Bethesda has updated the Steam store page for Wolfenstein: Youngblood, confirming that this new shooter will be using the Denuvo anti-tamper tech. […]
It’s worth pointing out that the latest version of the Denuvo anti-tamper tech has not been cracked yet. Anno 1800 enjoys three months of being protected by it, whereas Mortal Kombat 11 and Total War Three Kingdoms enjoy two months and Octopath Traveller enjoys almost a month. Yes, this latest version of Denuvo will be, eventually, cracked, however it has certainly served its purpose for a few games.”
It’s worth noting that Steam curator Denuvo Games features Youngblood on the ever-growing list of titles that use said tech.
Furthermore, website DSOG goes on to mention that Bethesda is known for removing the Denuvo anti-tamper tech the moment its games get cracked. However, I’m not sure if there’s an audience, or one that’s big enough, who wants Youngblood uncracked let alone cracked, but I could be wrong.
Well, there you have it, Wolfenstein: Youngblood will be heading to home consoles which include PS4, Xbox One, and Switch on July 26th. As for the PC version slated to hit Steam and the Bethesda Store, it will use the Denuvo anti-tamper tech.
