Midway Trailer Reveals It's This Generation's Pearl Harbor

Roland Emmerich hasn’t really directed any notable blockbuster fanfare worth paying attention to for some time. His last huge film to rack in the big bucks was probably 2012, which came out back in 2009. He’s produced some less-than-stellar outings since then, such as the forgettable Independence Day sequel called Resurgence, or the equally forgettable Stonewall. There was also the poor-man’s rip off of Olympus Has Fallen in the form of White House Down that anyone who cares about action cinema would probably rather forget existed; but Emmerich seems to be back in form with the upcoming Midway, which is the disaster-director’s take on the attack at Pearl Harbor.

The latest trailer for the film is chock full of Emmerich’s staple moments of huge explosions, fast camera work, spastic cuts like a Michael Bay music video, and a bunch of actors whose characters probably won’t live until the end of the credit rolls when all is said and done. Nevertheless, it looks like a schlocky good time and has a lot of the staples necessary to be a blockbuster big enough to put Emmerich back on form. Noticed anything?

How could you not?

The trailer contains no forced diversity, no feminism, and none of that degenerate stuff.

This is a film made for people who enjoy American history with a ton of action, and no Liberal agenda sticking the place up.

It’s a refreshing and shocking sight, to say the least. Usually these films are rife with all sorts of revisionist history to accommodate a tiny percentage of people who don’t even like these kind of films.

This time around Emmerich is giving his take on the Pearl Harbor story some 18 years after Michael Bay took a crack at it with Ben Affleck and Josh Harnett in the film Pearl Harbor.

Midway - Pearl Harbor Under Siege

I can’t say that Emmerich’s film looks any different than Bay’s take, other than that I have to be honest and say that the live-action practical effects from Bay’s film did look a heck of a lot more gritty and involved than the CGI-fest that is Emmerich’s Midway.

The green-screen effects are almost about as obvious as the cellulite on Kim Kardashian.

It really takes me out of a film when you can see the obvious 3D effects, and that’s definitely the biggest drawback to Midway right now.

Now the good part is that the film won’t be due for release until November 8th later this year, so maybe they’ll spend that time sprucing up the CGI and cleaning up the blending effects so it doesn’t look so obvious. But otherwise, I definitely have to give a head-nod to the studio for not kowtowing to the outrage brigade and turning the film into a cavalcade of ridiculous Left-wing propaganda.
