Team Arklay released a three minute video of their fan-made remake of Capcom’s abandoned but not forgotten classic, Dino Crisis. It was basically Resident Evil with dinosaurs, but it managed to find a solid fanbase over the years who never gave up on the game, always hoping for a new entry. While Capcom may not have a new game available, it looks like fans are stepping up to the plate to provide gamers with an Unreal Engine 4-powered alternative to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Dino Crisis.
The developers are working on recreating the original Dino Crisis, which came out back in 1999 for the PlayStation One. However, instead of being a fixed-camera, survival-horror experience, the game is now being designed as an over-the-shoulder, third-person action title, not unlike Resident Evil 4, 5 or 6. You can check out the newest trailer below for the Dino Crisis fan-made game.
The three minute video gives us an over-the-shoulder escort through a couple of different scenarios, including the outdoor lot of the laboratory, the inner halls, security corridors, and a control room.
We don’t see any actual combat, but we do see Regina bring up her pistol a couple of times. Her walking animations definitely look on point, and they certainly managed to capture her sexy walk and gait.
This is still a work in progress, though, and it certainly shows in some areas. The T-Rex’s walking animations didn’t look so great and he basically slid across the ground.
Regina’s aiming looks kind of floaty, as if there’s a delay on the swivel when aiming. If they don’t tighten it up and bring the camera in closer for precision aiming I can easily imagine that being one of the top complaints about the project.
And obviously we still haven’t seen any actual combat yet, so the verdict is still out on whether it’s serviceable or not.
On the upside, the lighting looks good, the materials look good, the texture mapping isn’t spectacular but it works, and the animations for Regina at least look doable.
There’s obviously a lot more work to be done, and so long as Capcom doesn’t nuke the project I’m curious to see what they do with it.
