For two years gamers have been subject to the broadcasts of public derision by a Twitter account known as Shitty Gamer Takes. It essentially would cherry pick comments from gamers who made anti-establishment, anti-Left, anti-propaganda remarks, and then exhibit them to their thousands of followers. Twitter, being an arm of the Left, had no qualms about putting Shitty Gamer Takes’ takes at the top of feeds as if it were public service announcement saying, “Look at what this Chad had to say. Point and laugh at them for not being a fake, normie, converged gamer!”. Well, karma swings both ways, and after receiving enough pushback, the owner of the account decided to call it quits.
On November 29th, 2019, the owner of the account took to Twitter with a thread stating that they were too tired to keep screen-capping comments and getting Lefty-Twitter to rag on them for not scarfing down the agitprop the way John Podesta scarfs down cheesy pizza.
it’s been 2 years and honestly it finally hit the point where i just don’t want to do this anymore. thanks for the good times, friends, but it’s not worth the energy at this point.

i said “hey maybe the gaming community has a really fucking bad personality problem?”
thank you to those that proved my point a thousand times over. karma will sort you out later. i’m going to keep playing video games, watching anime, and being better than you ever will.

The burnout was exacerbated after Vice did a deep-dive into the person behind the account back in late October, 2019.
It turns out that the person who runs the account hails from Missouri, is named Dawnya, and they have pronouns in their Twitter profile.
The account basically spends time trying to find any kind of take that doesn’t coincide with the SJW way of thinking. In the Vice article Dawnya explains the logic behind seeking out posts that would trigger most Liberals, Leftists, and Twitter addicts, telling them…
“[…] it seems: somewhere that lets them know that they’re not the only person thinking “Oh, these people are toxic.” Catharsis is a good term for it, probably.
“And I guess that’s what I get out of it, the thought that I’m doing SOMETHING for someone, no matter how small. Be it a community that provides a sense of relief or camaraderie, or the documentation that allows someone to say “my experience with toxic gamers in the gaming sphere was not a one-off event”. I don’t want to make it poetic or pat myself on the back because I’m not trying to, but that’s the most positive thing I think I get out of all this… If that makes sense, haha.”
The account basically just highlights a lot of anti-Left rhetoric and then blasts it onto Twitter. Thanks to Twitter’s fixed algorithm that mostly buffs Left-wing viewpoints, many of the tweets put out by the account receive inordinate amounts of interactions.
In the interview Dwanya later explains what makes some of the takes so bad, saying…
“I don’t want to call them the “worst,” but I do find the takes that completely dismiss entire groups of people very headache inducing. Like, ‘Oh, a black woman in a video game? This is just pandering to SJWs that don’t buy video games! No one who plays video games wants this!’ Or, replace “black woman” with “gay man” or pretty much anyone from any minority group. Things like that. It’s so strange and absolutely ridiculous that people like that truly believe they’re the only ones with a genuine love for video games… There’s just a complete lack of awareness for the world around them.
“The ‘worst,’ in my book, are the violent ones. I still think the worst one I ever posted was the person that ‘debunked’ the Holocaust using Minecraft… It’s pretty upsetting. And there are some I don’t even post because if it upsets me, I know it’ll upset a lot of the account’s followers no matter what content warning I put up. Folks wishing gay people would die because some video game character is a lesbian, etc etc… Really dark stuff.”
You can see an example of this kind of cherry-picking by just scrolling through the Twitter feed of the account, where it highlights someone who didn’t like that the newest Half-Life game will force you to play as Alyx, or highlighting someone who pointed out that companies are actually bigoted for not including flags or emblems for all marginalized groups instead of just those who took a dive into the alphabet soup.

The entire account is basically filled with screen-caps of comments like that, and hundreds or thousands of interactions from other Twitter users ridiculing people for not being slaves to the politically extreme faction that dominates social media.
It was also ironic that despite being against “toxic” gamers, the account also engaged in bullying others as well, including someone who suffered from depression, which resulted in the same crowd of easily offended snowflakes coming down on Dwanya for not being more compassionate toward a so-called friend. Using the Shitty Gamer Takes account, Dwanya fired back that it wasn’t something that involved them.
Most real gamers will recognize that not having to see that account on their timeline anymore will be a true blessing. They no longer have to witness hundreds of braindead Tumblr refugees going “oof” and “this ain’t it chief”, nor will they have to suffer through the inane image responses consisting of a blurry Pikachu or that ugly little kid making the icky face.
Hopefully this means that this will be one less account on Twitter that will actively badger the hardcore gaming audience. Now if only that chump from Vlambeer, 9Volt, and Anita Sarkeesian can join Shitty Gamer Takes in retirement, it will be a huge boon for the digital feng shui of the hardcore gaming community, because it means we’ll no longer have to look at trash filling up our feeds.
