Multiple reports have hit the web saying that Amazon is trying to follow in the footsteps of Google Stadia while attempting to compete in the games industry, but with its own “streaming service.” This new “service” is said to drop sometime in 2020.
Multiple publication sites like cnet.com, gamingbolt.com, and gamesindustry.biz all say that Amazon is gearing up to release its “video game streaming service” next year.
Although this move by Amazon may or may not come to fruition in 2020. If it did happen, Google Stadia is paving the road for the likely outcome as we speak. With that said, some things back up this reporting by the trio of websites in that job listings reveal a “game streaming service” by Amazon is in the works.
The latter of the trio of sites has this up on why Amazon is creating said service:
“Meanwhile, job listings for a “new initiative” within the Amazon Web Services team are believed to be for the streaming service. One of these suggested that Amazon will integrate the service into Twitch as well as some of its other businesses.”
The first job listing in question is the “Sr. Technical Games Producer, Alexa Games.” Additionally, the following description that the three sites believe will lead to Amazon jumping on the derailed Stadia train sits below:
“Do you love games? Do you like working in a startup environment? Do you want to be on the cutting edge? If so, then this role may be just right for you. The Alexa Games team drives and develops new game experiences for customers and tools for game developers. We are the pioneers in exploring what gaming on Alexa is by deeply understanding our customers and creating a differentiated gaming platform to introduce new genres of games that take advantage of Alexa’s voice-first experience, cloud AI and family of devices like Echo, Fire TV, Fire Tablets and Smarthome.
Our mission is to help make More Great games on Alexa.
To make Great games, we will push the envelope on Alexa’s capabilities and explore new gaming experiences by developing our own games and advocating for our developers.
To make More games, we will create tools, services, and inspirational experiences that enable a thriving developer community to delight customers with their games.”
The second job listing comes from the “Live Services Engineer – Games” page, which explains:
“Amazon is all in on games.
We believe the evolution that began with arcade communities a quarter at a time, growing to the live streams and esports of today, will continue to a future where everyone is a gamer and every gamer can create, compete, collaborate and connect with others at massive scales.”
I should note that Amazon Games Studios is currently working on a new Lord of the Rings game, the MMO New World (which is bothering SJWs), and mobile games for the Amazon Appstore.
I should also note that the Amazon team is also working on its Lumberyard engine, something that is powering New World.
Lastly, do you think Amazon is trying to follow Google Stadia and create its own anti-consumer “service,” or do you think it’s all just speculative nonsense? However, we’ll find out when 2020 rolls around.
