Half-Life: Alyx VR Game Announced

Valve announced that a new Half-Life game is coming soon, and the full announcement with more details is set to roll out on Thursday at 10:00am PST, which is November 21st.

The news came courtesy of an evening post by the official Valve Software Twitter account, where they revealed that the flagship game is coming to Steam.

Rumors have swirled as to what the game will be about and how it will play out.

What’s quite obvious is that the game is not the highly rumored Half-Life 3, which has built up the kind of hype that Valve couldn’t possibly live up to, especially with a variety of diversity hires within their employment stock, and having hipsters working at the company from Campo Santo.

In any case, YouTuber TheQuartering discussed what a leaker reportedly told him, who explained that the new game is pretty crappy and that it’s basically being used to push Valve’s Index, the $1,000 VR kit.

According to the leaks, the game is a prequel to Half-Life 2, and based on the title it seems as if you play as Alyx, but that wasn’t really clarified.

In any case, TheQuartering points out that it seems like this new Half-Life title is basically holding the fanbase as hostage to buy into the whole VR gimmick to get your hands on the latest Half-Life offering.

Of course, this is also working on the assumption that this will be a VR-only game. We won’t know for sure until Valve rolls out the details this Thursday.

I’m not a fan of VR, I don’t really like VR, and the hardware is expensive, clunky, and lacks intuitive interactivity most times. Nevertheless, we’ll see what Half-Life: Alyx turns out to be when it gets a formal reveal later this week.
