Compile Heart has a new Neptunia game in the works, scheduled to release at some point in 2020 for the PlayStation 4 in Japan. Given that the series has picked up quite the following Stateside, don’t be surprised if you see the new game localized for the West, too.
According to RPG Site, following up on a teaser video that was recently released, Compile Heart formally announced via Famitsu and Dengenki that VVVTunia is in development for Sony’s console.
The teaser trailer literally reveals nothing, but in the article it explains the general premise behind the upcoming game.
Basically, the planet EMO – which is set in the digital universe of Virtualand – is on the verge of being destroyed by monsters called Anti. The people of EMO summon the four goddesses of Gamindustri, and the virtual idols of Network World, all in an attempt to save them from the Antis.
I do wonder if Compile Heart will take this opportunity to poke fun at the anti-gamer groups who have been pestering the hardcore crowd with censorship and content restrictions over the last half decade? If they do, it would be a perfect time to take a satirical punch at the propagandists currently ruining the gaming industry.
The only downside is that the game is launching exclusively for the PS4. And what’s so ironic about it is that Sony is one of the companies constantly pushing for more censorship in fan-service games with their censorship policies.
In any case, the article explains that there are different regions of EMO, each with their own aesthetic theme, and the combat system will vary depending on the characters you’re playing. For instance, the goddesses utilize long-range projectile weaponry such as guns, while the V-idols rely on close-range melee attacks and combos.
There’s also a Beat Tik system that will allow the party to dance to music, along with being able to customize their outfits, but I imagine we’ll get a better idea of what the system is like closer to release.
