Weekly Recap Nov 16th: Pokemon Sword And Shield Scandal, Bond's Wokening, X019 Disappointing

This week was one letdown after another, starting with YouTube issuing a terms of service update notice where they let people know that commercially viable accounts could get axed after December 10th. They later issued a “clarification” that created more confusion, but we’ll have to see how it all plays out come next month.

Bond 25: No Time To Die is looking more woke than ever, with a pro-feminist bent and an ecologically conscious story about climate change, I doubt Bond will get back on track anytime soon. But the biggest story of the week that seems to be ongoing is the Pokemon Sword and Shield scandal involving a hashtag about GameFreak lying, reused assets that the company said they weren’t using, and missing, broken, or otherwise incompetently included features that has fans riled up and raucous all over social media trying to make it known that the game has not lived up to their standards at all.

These hair-pulling stories and more in this November 16th, 2019 edition of the Weekly Recap.

YouTube Termination Spree Imminent On December 10th

YouTube has made it clear in their new terms of service that they can basically run roughshod on your account and cancel you out at a moment’s notice if they no longer feel your content is “commercially viable”. This was made apparent in a TOS update that will go into effect starting December 10th. Tencent is also looking to get in on the Western gaming digs via teaming up with Nintendo. Disney will reportedly be censoring some of the films that appear on their new Disney+ streaming network. The Grisaia Trilogy was completely banned in Australia for the Nintendo Switch, despite being the censored version of the game. Blizzard will reportedly have not only microtransactions but expansion packs ripe and ready for Diablo IV when it releases. And Netflix is considering adding ads to its service, despite the fact that most people pay to view content on Netflix to avoid ads. Not only that but adding ads to the service could net them a loss of 25% of their subscriber base.

James Bond Keeps Getting More Woke

It was just a matter of time before Social Justice Warriors took aim at One Angry Gamer, and now they’re attempting to get the site knocked offline and the advertisers removed from the website. South Korea has made a worrying judgment in terms of prosecuting a porn distributor, claiming that anime and manga that contain characters they determine to be “teenagers” is the equivalent of child porn. James Bond’s upcoming 007: No Time To Die ramped up its wokeness by giving the agent an electric car, making it where his wife doesn’t take his surname, and it’s generally going to be a “climate change” plot. Netflix has mentioned that they currently have no plans to enter into the gaming industry, while Bethesda has outright banned one of their most loyal Fallout 76 fans.

NISA Promises Free Juna Bikini DLC For Trails Of Cold Steel 3

There are a lot of ins and outs to DLC these days, including some that are pay-to-in that are direct and others that are pay-to-win provided in an indirect manner. OAG’s Kevin detailed the intricacies of the pay-to-win microtransactions ruining today’s industry. And speaking of DLC and microtransactions… NISA acknowledged that they will be fixing the issue with not providing the Juna bikini DLC for Western gamers, and will offer it for free for a limited time for those who own Trails of Cold Steel 3 on PS4. Also, Paramount acknowledged that they royally screwed up with Sonic The Hedgehog movie and decided to completely redo Sonic’s horrible model and make him look less like a furry pedo, and I must say that he definitely looks a lot better in the new trailer. There likely won’t be a Pillars of Eternity 3 given that the second game got woke and went broke. And YouTubers are losing their channels to hackers who are selling them to crytpocurrency hijackers but YouTube seems slow to do anything about it.

Pokemon Sword And Shield Scandal

While there’s some prime-time autism surrounding the release of Pokemon Sword and Shield, there’s also some serious and scandalous revelations surrounding the release as well, including that GameFreak lied and apparently they didn’t create all new models from scratch but instead used assets from the old Nintendo 3DS games. Activision and Blizzard didn’t have the best third quarter around and it turns out they nearly lost 50% of their revenue compared to the previous year. Facebook has been on a purging spree lately, removing 11.4 billion pieces of what they call “hate speech” and banning more than 3.2 billion accounts they deemed “fake”. And Famitsu has come under fire for the head honcho who runs their parent company appearing in Death Stranding as a quest-giver, which made people question how the organization could give the game a perfect 40/40 score.

X019 Turns Into A Woke-Fest

Dontnod and Microsoft announced at the X019 event this year that a new game is coming out called Tell Me Why, which centers around a coming of age story themed around a transgender protagonist. But that wasn’t all, there’s also a new game filled with “diversity” called Grounded from Obsidian Entertainment, and they also announced that the Halo television series on Showtime will contain a bunch of race-swaps, including the blackwashing of Captain Keyes and his daughter Miranda Keyes. In brighter news, CW’s Batwoman could be on the chopping block for cancellation, but that doesn’t really balance out more bad news in the form of PUBG’s Brendan Greene publicly bemoaning wanting to hire more women to replace men in the workforce, and GamerGhazi targeting TheQuartering because of his coverage of Zoe Quinn.
