How much longer does the Get Woke, Go Broke Master List need to become before Hollywood finally wises up and learns that getting woke equates to going broke? If it doesn’t happen sooner it happens later, and in the case of Blumehouse’s Black Christmas remake of the 1974 classic (laced with feminist propaganda of course) they found out rather quickly that their woke antics weren’t going to go over well with the audience… at all.
A/V Club reported that Sophia Takal’s take on Black Christmas – making it yet another remake of the film and the third time that a Hollywood studio tried to cash in on the classic slasher – tanked pretty badly over the weekend, earning a domestic income of just $4.4 million across 2,625. According to Box Office Mojo, the film was made on a $5 million budget, not including marketing costs.
The worldwide numbers weren’t much better, totaling only $7 million when combining the domestic and international box office receipts, according to Screenrant.
As detailed by YouTuber YellowFlash, it means that Black Christmas went broke after getting woke.
This follows on an absolutely atrocious marketing campaign, where they focused on pitching the film to the public as a feminist revenge movie that tackles the “Patriarchy”, “Misogyny”, and “Sexism”.
The director, just a week before release, publicly proclaimed that her remake of Black Christmas was “fiercely feminist”.
Even if you had even the remotest interest in the film, the writer and director made sure that anyone who isn’t into agitprop masked as a horror film wasn’t going to find Black Christmas enticing.
As pointed out by YouTuber Josiah Rises, it was a perfect mixing pot to drive potential audiences away and turn the feminist propaganda film into a box office bomb.
All that being said, it looks like this is yet another entry for the ever-expanding, ever-growing, always-hungry Get Woke, Go Broke Master List.
