Doom: Eternal Video Stream Shows That You Can Change The Hideous Rainbow UI

Do you remember that LGBT-looking UI previously highlighted for Doom: Eternal some months back? Well, you can finally change it according to a recent live stream that covers various options and toggles regarding the game’s heads up display (HUD) and UI.

Bethesda Softworks and id Software were to release Doom: Eternal this year but pushed the first-person shooter to March 20th, 2020. Nevertheless, the two are still working on the game that got social justice warriors panties in a twist back in August 2018.

After the whole SJW meltdown in 2018, during E3 2019, a lot of fans voiced their problem with the FPS game’s UI, saying that it looks terrible.

In an interview conducted with VG 24/7, creative director Hugo Martin explained that the UI that looks like something related to James Charles needed to be in the game due to its speed:

“The thing about the UI – when you actually play the game, and you have it in your hands, the game moves at about 200 miles an hour. We’re throwing so much stuff at you, and when you’re in that situation, if you’re in a race car going that fast around the track, all of the messaging has to be big, bold and loud, otherwise you’re going to get fucking killed.

So the colour of wheel is that way so that in a millisecond glance, you know what ammo you have, how much you have. Pickups are loud because you need those to survive in the game. The UI itself is meant to be big and bold, so that way, again, you don’t want to die because you didn’t know what state your resources were in.”

In case you are unfamiliar with the eyesore UI, let me introduce you to Doom: Eternal’s OG HUD:

With enough complaints, instead of changing it, id Software recently made it where you can turn on or off anything related to the HUD via UI settings in the options menu. This includes color-changing, adding or removing something, making icons smaller or larger, and getting rid of the atrocious coloring on the weapon wheel.

Also, the live-stream reveals different skins, and the option to opt for classic Doom 1 and 2 weapon centering. With that said, you can check out part of the live-stream thanks to YouTuber Kadingir:

Whether id Software or Bethesda Softworks have put a sour taste in your mouth or not, the FPS game in question is still releasing Q1 2020 across PC and home consoles.
