On January 5th, 2020 a Reddit user going by the handle CreedBatton57 had posted the infamous video of an Antifa member being punched in the face and knocked out clean during a scuffle with the Proud Boys in the Justice Served sub-reddit. The moderators modified his flair to show his GPS coordinates in order to dox the user, but they claimed it was part of an alternate reality game.
The video in question contained the clip of a Proud Boy giving a right hook to an Antifa member, as featured in the Fuck The EU compilation video you can view below.
There was a post informing users about the incident over on KotakuInAction 2. Where there’s an archive to another post on the sub-reddit Watch Reddit Die, where CreedBatton57 explained what happened, writing…
“I posted this video of an Antifa member getting knocked out in r/JusticeServed. The post made it to front page and had a ton of upvotes. As you can imagine, the comments were very heated. I don’t know exactly when, but for at least 18 minutes, the flair on my post was changed to my GPS coordinates by a mod or someone. This was after I already received messages telling me to kill myself. Clear violation of the Content Policy, more specifically the private/confidential information. Super fucked up and I’ve contacted local news stations as I basically was doxxed on the front page for at least 18 minutes with my GPS coordinates.
“[…] Not to sound like r/Iamverybadass or anything, but this is exactly why I exercise my 2nd amendment right. I’ve got kids I’ve got to worry about. Not to be overly dramatic, but all it takes is one crazy Antifa member.”
Mr. Obvious was quick to publish a video about the incident in a 13 minute video over on Bitchute.
There was actually an update from the JusticeServedBot later that day, who attempted to run damage control, claiming they made a lot of “Oopsie Daisys”. In the post, published hours after the incident occurred on January 5th, 2020, JusticeServedBot wrote…
“The GPS coordinates are to a bridge just down river of New River Gorge Bridge. Some of the mod team is headed down south to Florida and we are going through here. I fucking hate tall bridges so we’re going over the small one.
The plan was to leave a sticker/note under the guardrail (since the flair after the GPS was “OVER WATER UNDER METAL”) and let a user find it. I was hoping maybe it’d get crossposted to r/ARG or similar, but it seems to have went another direction.
The flair had been changed for quite a while to “TRUMP 2024” IIRC, and due to threats (according to the user) he deleted the post. Since it was a front page post and the user deleted it, we banned them .Likely upset at the the ban they decided to post the GPS coordinates (which was taken before the user removed the post as detailed in the screenshot) but he marked out some of the numbers. This way they could claim it was their house, despite being 322 miles away according to the users own admission that they live in [Redacted]. http://archive.is/NNxdf“Without the proper GPS coordinates, some of them being marked out, users simple assumed it was OP’s address when in actuality it’s a small bridge in a very, very large valley. The closest “home” within a mile would be an abandoned coal tipple if you count elevation.”
Since CreedBatton57 was banned, we don’t actually know if what JusticeServedBot saying is true, but most times out of ten the moderators are known for lying when it comes to them being outed for misconduct.
- We saw it happen before when a moderator was caught in a corruption scandal involving Star Wars: Battlefront.
- We saw them formulate all manner of lies surrounding #GamerGate and their circling the wagon, even going as far as to admit in the mod logs that they were hiding industry corruption.
- Mods were also caught hiding the corruption surrounding the CS:GO gambling scandals, which were big enough to warrant attention from the Federal Trade Commission.
- Mods were also quick to remove any information about Bethesda violating GDPR standards.
- And many of the major gaming sub-reddits also censored an exposé about charity fraud taking place within the Twitch.tv community.
Oftentimes when asked why these threads are removed, the responses are typically that they’re off-topic or the formatting was incorrect.
In short, Reddit moderators are known for lying and making things up to cover their own hide. As pointed out in an update post on KotakuInAction 2, it’s unlikely that the user deleted their own account to erase all the information. It’s a possibility, but Reddit moderators are using that scapegoat as an excuse to say that what he posted wasn’t true and to attempt to dismiss any sort of culpability in the matter, which is typical SɺƜ behavior.
(Thanks for the news tip Doc and JohnTrine)
