Voltes V Legacy Teaser Features A Live-Action Take On The Mecha Classic

There’s a brand new live-action reboot of the classic anime in the works called Voltes V Legacy. The Philippines-based production will put an all new spin on the brand, “soon”.

[Correction: Originally the article stated that this was a reboot of Voltron, but it’s not actually Voltron, but the similar series that was popular in Southeast Asia called Voltes V or Voltes Five]

GMA Network and Telesuccess Productions are the ones responsible for the production, which was licensed by the Toei Company. The new teaser for the project doesn’t show much, but we see that the humans will be played by real people, but all the backgrounds and the mechs will be rendered in 3D.

You can get a glimpse of the minute long teaser below, courtesy of Voltes V The Documentary.

I have to be honest, I saw “live-action” and was primed and ready to “nope” out, but I can safely eat my own words and commend them for making the teaser looking very interesting right now.

The CGI isn’t groundbreaking, but it looks serviceable, and so long as the acting isn’t overly cheesy or the green screen backdrops aren’t horribly distracting, the whole thing might work.

My biggest hope is that they don’t delve into the whole propaganda angle that the Netflix series tumbled down like a drunk hedgehog tumbling down a mole’s tunnel.

Voltes V Legacy - Voltron

For those of you who don’t know, Netflix made the main character gay in their animated version of Voltron.

It would be an instant turnoff if that’s the sort of character narratives they decided to explore in the series, because there’s like a million and one different ways to tell a story that doesn’t involve sex-swapping the character’s orientation just to score some pointless virtue signal score from the Twitter spergs. Plus, we all know that catering to that crowd doesn’t equate to viewership. Heck, just look at the anime Stars Align, which was a huge Twitter darling for it’s so-called “LGBT representation” but it ended up going broke after getting woke, because surprise, surprise retweets don’t equal television ratings. But I digress.

Hopefully GMA does right by the  series and makes sure that Voltes V Legacy is as good as the teaser trailer appears to promise.
