Dead Or Alive 6's $1 Hair Color Change Is A Feature Not A Bug, Says Koei Tecmo

Koei Tecmo’s latest scheme for Team Ninja’s perpetually controversial Dead or Alive 6 involves having players acquire a premium ticket in order to change the hair colors of the characters in the game. If you decide to change the hair color back to the default it also requires a premium ticket. How much does this cost you? $1 per ticket. When angry fans asked Koei Tecmo about this they acknowledged the intent of having gamers spend a $1 a pop to change a single character’s hair color, saying it was a feature and not a bug.

AsumeTech.com did a quick write-up on the controversy, noting that starting with the Gust DLC that arrived in patch 1.20 for the PS4 gamers were required to purchase premium tickets in order to change a character’s hair color.

FreeStepDodge did an article about Koei Tecmo’s response regarding the matter, sharing screenshots from when they contacted customer support about it.

If you’re unable to read the image, it states…

“It is a specification of this feature that a premium ticket is used every time you change the hairstyles, and it is not a bug.

“Please note that even if you change back to the same color again, another ticket will be used. We would appreciate your understanding.

“However, we will share your report with the relevant department.

“At this stage, we would like to close our correspondence for your inquiry.

“Please note that you will be unable to post to this page one month from today.”

Basically they’re running a hair color grift on gamers looking to customize the lovely ladies and lads in Dead or Alive 6.

Dead or Alive 6 - Facebuster

As mentioned in the FreeStepDodge article, this feature is free in just about every other fighting game on the market where customization is available. Heck, even Electronic Arts doesn’t charge people real money to change the hair color for their characters in games like EA Sports UFC, and that game is filled to the brim with the ultimate team cards that work like loot boxes.

Modder Gatto Tom also pointed out that PC users can get around this issue with mods, but that doesn’t excuse Koei Tecmo’s behavior.

Thank you for copying modders’ work 👏
Besides, it doesn’t mean that just because there are modders, we shouldn’t get the Hair Change Colour feature update.

But wait… it gets worse.

Some gamers also took a deep dive into the geometrical science behind the gluteus maximus for Tamaki in Dead or Alive 6, who is an import fighter from DMM Games’ Dead or Alive Xtreme: Venus Vacation. In what could only be described as Team Ninja’s gross misrepresentation of the female form, they found that the character had her glutes reduced in order to shrink the appearance of protuberance into the long head of the biceps femoris in her upper thigh, which was detailed in a comparitive diagram published on the Dead or Alive sub-reddit by user Aatroxbgm.

They nerf Tamaki’s butt. from r/DeadOrAlive

It looks as if Koei Tecmo have become desperate and greedy, looking for any and every way imaginable to make a quick buck on Dead or Alive 6 without realizing that all of this could have been avoided had they not bent the knee to people who don’t play video games, and put fan-service front and center for the game without shame or apprehension. Instead, they decided to tone down the fan-service, censor the outfits, and remove key features that made the series as popular as it was. Now they’re paying the price for it and the downward spiral appears to have no end in sight.
