Oddity, Earthbound Spiritual Successor Headed To PC

The Oddity team was originally working on a fan-sequel to the Mother series (known as Earthbound in the West). Their Mother 4 project ended up about as dead as Chris Chan’s sex life. However, the work was not in vain and the team decided to transfer all of that effort into an original project called Oddity.

The indie made project was announced back in late January of 2020 with a teaser trailer revealing that all of the time and energy invested into the unofficial Mother sequel had not gone to waste, and that the project would release when “it’s ready”, a common term used by quality game developers when working on highly anticipated games. It was often used by Remedy when they were working on Max Payne leading up to its release, and now the team working on Oddity are using it for their highly anticipated take on a franchise that Nintendo refuses to honor the West with.

A lot of people who had been following the Mother 4 development since 2010 were excited about the news, especially after the original website for the project stopped being updated.

They had promised that the built-from-the-ground-up project would be completely free for everyone to avoid all the copyright hassles that Nintendo was likely going to rain down upon them like harassment from mentally ill degenerates on a new Twitter user that happens to be a straight white Christian male, so they decided to do the next best thing: make a brand new game.

Since they’re using all their own assets I wonder if Nintendo will still hound them down like a THOT hounds down a horny 14-year-old for his single mother’s maxed out credit card? Or will the name change be enough?

These are lingering questions that will persist until either the Big ‘N’ whips out their evil litigious stick and smacks it across the face of the Oddity team, or the Oddity team manages to release the game in full to the public.

I guess we’ll find out when it’s ready.
