Studio FOW has released an updated developmental roadmap indicating that since they decided to skip an Early Access run and just release a complete game when it’s finished, you won’t be seeing the adult-themed game hit digital storefronts until 2021. This means that Tim Pool won’t have to worry about his Subverse media network being completely buried on the search engines with waifu material from men of culture until at least 2021.
The news was published on February 28th, 2020 over on the Subverse Steam forums, where the developers released a lengthy infographic showcasing what they’ll be working on throughout 2020 and how they’ll be preparing for the 2021 release. You can check out the infographic below.
As you can see, they have plans on wrapping up the mangas by the end of the second quarter, getting all of the voiceover work done, and finalizing the SHMUP mode.
Throughout the third quarter they’ll be focusing on getting the artbook finalized and out to backers who pledged at the artbook level, as well as finishing up the boss encounters featured throughout the game.
The fourth quarter is basically the finalization of all the systems and accouterments to help make the game feel complete, including a waifu featurette, the final forms for the D.I.V.A., grid-based combat mode, and the final factions you’ll be encountering.
From there it’s just a matter of testing, updating, refining, and bug-fixing until the game is ready to go gold.
At some point near the end of 2020 I’m sure we’ll get a more pared down release window, and then in 2021 we’ll get an actual release date. I’m sure a lot of people are disappointed at having to wait so long for a quality made game that contains lots of R18+ content, but the developers were intent on foregoing any sort of Early Access phase.
