Netflix is converged. While that doesn’t have anything to do with the new trailer for Transformers: War For Cybertron, which is based on the comic books and video games of the same name, it’s important to remind you that Netflix is converged. I just wanted you to know that before continuing.
The trilogy of Transformers: War For Cybertron starts with the first episode “Siege”, which sets up the seeds planted by the leader of the Decepticons, Megatron, as he leads them into war against the Autobots for control over the energon supply of Cybertron.
The reason that a war broke out over the energy supply was because the resources were running low, and Megatron wanted to take control of the supply for himself. Various factions and groups also had their own agendas, and instead of working together to find a solution for the planetary crisis, each group tried to fight for their own cause, which inevitably resulted in the fall of Cybertron.
The trailer for the animated Netflix series, which looks like a cross between the G1 iteration and High Moon Studios’ outings, is quite lengthy as it sets up the conflict quite nicely.
Right off the bat it was impossible for me to get too excited given that Peter Cullen isn’t voicing Optimus Prime.
You could tell they delayed having Optimus talk in the trailer for as long as possible, but they eventually did it and it was extremely underwhelming.
It’s amazing how much of the show just loses almost all of its appeal due to a lack of having the right man to voice the iconic Autobot general.
Visually, though, one can quite easily asseverate the quality of the limited run series thanks to the artists being able to capture the original visage of the characters from the G1 series but with all the extra details and nuances afforded to their depictions thanks to high-definition modeling.
It’s a real shame because it looks like people who really care about the series and have an actual love for Transformers were given the reins to craft a visual story around one of the most celebrated arcs in the brand’s history, yet it just had to be picked up by a propaganda outfit that was funded in part by George Soros, as reported by Market Realist.
Even still, one can keep an eye on Transformers: War For Cybertron Trilogy to see if signs of any kind of convergence can be spotted.
