For a long time, Hollywood has gotten away with a persistent insistence of pushing subversive elements in their movies. It wasn’t until the “Blug Bug” spread through Hollywood faster than their favorite scapegoat is spreading through the world that their antagonism with the average American became untenable. As a result, family organizations like One Million Moms and Citizen Go have begun actively working to promote boycotts against Disney movies and parks.
Increasingly, investors are growing hesitant to continue backing woke content and matters for CEO Bob Chapek have gotten worse when he was confronted by Citizen Go’s Caroline Farrow. As Bounding into Comics transcribes:
“Now, as you may be aware almost 700,000 people have signed a petition asking Disney to reconsider the way in which you currently promote LGBT ideology in many of your products for children. Now, the numbers of people signing this petition are rising.”
“We’ve heard a lot about diversity which is important and Disney is a company that represents communities all around the world. Now, there are families like mine, we grew up with Disney, we love Disney, we want to introduce our families to Disney’s product, we want to trust your brand. But we no longer feel safe.”
“At a time when your stock is down by 20%, is it perhaps time to reconsider what you can do to make Disney more family friendly? To make it safe for people around the world, not just one particular minority? And also what would you say to those 700,000 people who signed our petition saying, ‘Please let’s not have the gay prides in the Disneyland parks.’?”
Chapek at this point issued a statement to the effect that Disney would continue pushing diversity in their content. Before attempting to scapegoat Disney’s losses and stock decline on the outbreak of Covid-19.
“Well, thank you for your question. At Disney we strongly believe we should reflect in our creative content the diversity that we find in our fanbase and our audience. And I believe that will continue with an increased commitment as we move forward. We want to represent our audience. We believe we want to tell stories that our audience wants to hear that reflects their lives.”
“Secondly, in terms of the stock price. I think there is a lot of reasons why the stock price might be down 20% and it has nothing to do with the issue that you have raised. It might have more to do with coronavirus and the worldwide pandemic that we are facing.”
Factually speaking Chapek is emphatically lying. Certainly, Corona Chan has had a negative impact on Disney’s park division, which typically props up the company’s financials according to Clownfish TV who have immense experience on the issue.
That isn’t what caused their stock value to decline as the parks were already seeing a decline in attendance before the Corona outbreak caused several shutdowns.
What triggered Disney’s stock devaluation was a combination of the suspected no-confidence vote against Bob Iger coupled with the failure of the Rise of Skywalker and a $740m loss during the company fourth quarter. That much can be said for certainty, but it is suspected the SEC filing regarding Disney cooking their books may have also played a role in Iger’s sudden departure from his role as CEO and the stock devaluation.
That Chapek would respond to a representative of millions of women as investors listened in that they were not going to stop pushing woke content will likely lead to Chapek having a very short run as CEO. Investors were already uncertain of Chapek’s tenure, but watching him refuse to course-correct after Rise of Skywalker and Onward both failed to break even isn’t going to end well for him.
