David Jaffe Scolds SJW Media For Calling God of War's Kratos “Misogynist”

David Scott Jaffe by a Liberal, and he occasionally shares views on Twitter and YouTube that contradict the rules of common sense, but he’s at least not afraid of calling out the corrupt media that constantly badgers gamers over the head with this idea that any character that isn’t a simpering cuckold or weak-willed beta male is a “misogynist” or practicing “toxic masculinity”. Recently, Jaffe corrected one such outlet that tried to continue to perpetuate the aforementioned myth.

On March 23rd, 2020 Inverse published an article titled “GOD OF WAR OFFERS A BLUEPRINT FOR FIXING GAMING’S TOXIC MENTALITY”.

The article’s attempt to portray the original Kratos under Jaffe’s stewardship as “toxic”, and how Core Barlog’s take on the character opened the door to a better portrayal of men, and to get people to “empathize” with someone who was depicted as “irredeemable”.

Jaffe took umbrage to this line of reasoning, and corrected them on Twitter with a tweet that was published on March 27th, 2020.

I must continually state that Kratos was NEVER a misogynist in GOD OF WAR 1. Like AT ALL. And it pisses me off ‘journalists’ continue to retcon that game in order to justify the thesis of their GOD OF WAR 2018 stories.

It’s true… a man can’t be a misogynist if he was willing to travel through the very depths of Hades, journey to the clouds of Olympus, and massacre every Greek god through the pantheon for his wife and child.

But this attempt from media to drag Kratos across concrete as some sort of retroactive penance for the character’s unashamed masculinity is part of their agenda to rewrite history that all things testosterone-laden must be purged.

While Jaffe sometimes falls off into the deep-end of erroneous beliefs on certain topics like loot-boxes or Jill Valentine being attractive in the Resident Evil 3 Remake, at least here he gets it right. That’s a rare thing to say about a Liberal in this day and age.

[Update:] Unfortunately, Jaffe’s Liberalism still clouds his common sense, and further into the thread it was spotted that he acquiesced that God of War 3 was somehow “misogynistic”.

Sure BUT what it IS is not what they are claiming. Is GOD OF WAR 3 misogynistic? Hmm…I would say it is, sadly. And I would not want to make a game like that. But GOD OF WAR 1 does not deserve that important and meaningful (but in this case, not apropos) criticism.

However, a few people tried to veer back onto the straight and narrow by explaining that Kratos being mean to women is him exercising equality since he was perpetually cruel to men.

Hmm- it may have been. So let’s just take the gears scene. Yeah, for me, it was too sex+violence blend. But sure, at a pure character study, your take works as well. It’s not how my brain took it however but that doesn’t mean I’m right. I personally found it troubling. YMMV.
