Develop:Bright LGBTQ+ Roundtable To Push For “Better” Representation In Games And Media

If you thought that LGBTQ+ representation in video games and the entertainment space is growing at an exceeding rate, then brace yourself for more propaganda since Develop:Bright 2020 is looking to hold a “roundtable talk” to push LGBTQ+ representation in the games industry.

In an attempt to get the games industry and other forms of entertainment to bolster LGBTQ+ representation, the roundtable talk will try to leverage off the experiences of attendees by trying to figure out how to get said industry to accept/represent LGBTQ+ figures.

In simple terms, expect to see more lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer characters across video games, TV shows, and movies.

With that said, this keynote will be headed by Ian Masters (of Flick Games) and Elli Shapiro (of Rocksteady Studios), where we learn from developconference.com the following:

“An open and welcoming forum for LGBTQ+ games professionals and students to have frank conversations about the challenges they face. Let’s celebrate the wins we’ve made over the last year and work together towards improving outcomes for the future.”

After the above letter the following bulleted list appears, which explains understanding the concerns of LGBTQ+ individuals working in the games industry, celebrating diversity in workplaces, tips and tricks for pushing “better” in-game representation from within the industry, and building a community to embrace said initiatives:

  • We will be leveraging the experiences of the attendees to build takeaways such as…
  • An understanding of the concerns of LGBTQ+ individuals working in the games industry
  • Techniques shared from first-hand experiences of celebrating diversity in workplaces
  • Tips and tricks for pushing for better in-game representation from within the industry
  • Building a sense of community and optimism for the future!

Moreover, expect to see more forced LGBTQ+ characters throughout this year and beyond much like in the upcoming Borderlands 3: Guns, Love, and Tentacles DLC, Superman: Red Son, the Walker: Texas Ranger re-boot, The Eternals, Netflix’s Castlevania, and The Last of Us HBO series.

Lastly, Develop:Bright 2020 will kick-off from July 14th to July 16th, 2020. In the meantime, you can learn more about this event by hitting up the official website.
