At a certain point everyone begins to suspect math might not be journalist’s strong suit. After all, one cannot believe a gun grab is viable when your side doesn’t have jack for guns without a complete inability to understand mathematics. Yet defying the wisdom Mark Twain imparted on remaining silent less you reveal yourself the fool on Thursday MSNBC’s Eleventh Hour spoke removing any doubt.
During the airing host Brian Williams and his guest New York Times Editorial Board Member Mara Gay were discussing a tweet that claimed Bloomberg could have given every American a million dollars with the amount of money he spent on advertisements.
“Bloomberg spent $500 million on ads. The U.S. Population is 327 million. He could have given each American $1 million and have had money left over. I feel like $1 million check would be a life-changing for most people. Yet he wasted it all on ads and STILL LOST!”
Keep in mind this is just what he spent on himself. No one has tabulated how much he spent on activist groups and contributed to other campaigns in order to buy his way into the caucus. It is possible the amount could be double, but that still wouldn’t net any of us so much as a $5 bill.
The point both “journalists” were attempting to make was how big finance has hijacked our electoral process both directly in the case of Bloomberg and indirectly with lobbying, revolving door politics, and outright corruption. It is a valid issue that plagues our political systems, and that entire point is lost in the ocean of people pointing and laughing at their inability to do basic math.
I don’t feel like that’s the correct math. pic.twitter.com/ASjlbQUIyN

So, according to the left 500,000,000 divided by 327,000,000 equals 1,000,000+. No wonder they think socialism will work this time… Call me crazy, but I think we have too many zeros here. I mean I could be wrong. I only have a 4.0GPA. But they think the GPA is racist too so…

Why would you say he is trolling for pointing a gigantic inaccuracy in the math being presented? If being honest and accurate is trolling, I’m curious what else you consider trolling.

Even if they didn’t make such a gaffe it is nigh impossible to take MSNBC seriously after they spent weeks propping up and defending Bloomberg against Republicans, Moderates, and Centralists who called what was happening for what it was. On the same show mere days before Super Tuesday revealed Bloomberg was a no go, they were still playing softball and refusing to call the corruption for what it was.
That’s the problem with the media. By no rationale do they have a lick of legitimacy and demonstrate flagrantly they will lie up until it no longer suits their needs. Slowly, but surely, westerners are picking up on this, but until the industry is reduced to fossil fuel it will do its best to take out as many alternative institutions as possible. All the more reason why you should support said alternatives so we all can dance on their grave together.
