Mary Skelter Finale Heads To PS4, Nintendo Switch August 27th In Japan

Compile Heart announced that there’s a new and final entry in the Mary Skelter franchise coming August 27th, 2020 in Japan called Mary Skelter Finale. The game will release on the Nintendo Switch and the PlayStation 4 both digitally and physically.

Originally the news was covered exclusively in Dengeki Playstation Vol. 686, where they had a special eight page spread about the game in the issue that was released on March 28th, 2020.

In the spread they revealed that the game will offer a climax to the trilogy of Mary Skelter games, where the main character Jack must work with the blood girls to escape from the Jail and finally defeat the Merchen.

A debut trailer was released for the game, which you can check out below.

The trailer covers the basic premise, but RPG Site offered more details on the playable characters and content.

In addition to the main story mode, the game will also feature an Adventure Mode that recounts all of the events from Mary Skelter Nightmares, Mary Skelter 2 and Love Prison Tower Mary Skelter‘s bonus visual novel.

This is so that gamers will be able to catch up on all of the previous events that transpired in the past games to help contextualize the story in Mary Skelter Finale.

As revealed in the trailer, a special limited edition will also be made available featuring an art book and the original soundtrack on CD, but details on the limited edition have not been revealed just yet.

The turn-based dungeon-crawling RPG series certainly gained notoriety over the years for reviving the DRPG sub-genre within the JRPG niche, but it also gained additional notoriety for its purification mode, which Sony deemed unacceptable for Mary Skelter 2’s PS4 release, due to their censorship policies.

The purification mode made a return to form in the Nintendo Switch version of the game, but it’s a toss-up if Mary Skelter Finale will still feature it since it’s coming out on the PS4 and Nintendo Switch, and oftentimes developers design games with content parity for simultaneous releases. So we’ll see what they do for the big finale as the release date draws near.
