As part of the 10th anniversary for the NieR series, Square Enix announced that an alternate version of NieR Replicant is in the works and is currently scheduled to release on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and on Steam for PC.
The news was rolled out over on the official Square Enix website, and it had a minute and a half long trailer attached, giving gamers a brief recount of the story.
The original game came out back in 2010 for PS3, alongside a slightly altered Xbox 360 version known as NieR Gestalt. They don’t make any mention on what’s to become of the 360 version of the game, but I wouldn’t doubt it if they bundle both versions together in a remastered pack of some sort, or at least let you choose which version to play.
According to WCCF Tech, this alternate version of the game will include new characters and content that wasn’t featured in either version that came out during seventh gen.
Anyway, you can check out the trailer for yourself below.
Sadly no actual gameplay is on display, but I’m sure it’s coming soon. Toylogic is handling the remastered port of the game, and according to
Some people are really excited about this announcement; giddy with the thought of being able to play an old PS3 NieR game on their current-gen console or PC. However, I can’t help but think about Square’s Ethics Department.
For those of you not in the know, Square decided to acquiesce to Sony’s censorship policies by instituting their very own Ethics Department, which surveys the content and makes sure that sexy chicks aren’t too sexy, or cleavage isn’t too deep, or skirts aren’t too short, or panties aren’t on display.
Gamers will need to be vigilant with the NieR Replicant remaster to check to see if any of the content has been removed or altered, or if any of the chicks have been subjugated to the unrighteous act of censorship.
Anyway, there’s no release date for the NieR Replicant remaster, but I’m sure the window will be revealed with a proper press announcement soon enough.
