We haven’t heard much about the survival-horror sequel from the Italian outfit Modus and Stormind Games called Remothered: Broken Porcelain since the gameplay trailer dropped back in December of 2019. However, the developers released a new diary highlighting some of the themes, concepts, and mechanics that gamers can expect from the upcoming game, which is due out for home consoles and PC.
The six minute developer diary starts off with the creative director from Darril Arts, Chris Darril, talking about how Remothered was inspired by Rosemary’s Baby and some of Alfred Hitchcock’s classics such as The Birds and Psycho.
He also talks about rekindling some of the slow-burn thrills that used to be present in survival-horror titles from older generations. You can check out the video below.
Darril explains that the entire series was written out to be a trilogy, so if the second gamed does well then we might see a third and final entry in the Remothered franchise.
They also cover some of the basic mechanics of the sequel, which involves relying on a lot of stealth to hide from the antagonists and avoid being seen or captured.
This was a practical feature in the first game as well, with very minimal reliance on combat or physical encounters.
Many people consider it a spiritual successor to Clock Tower, and it also shares some gameplay semblance to Frictional Games’ Amnesia, where you can explore and examine many operable aspects of the environment.
According to the video, the main female protagonist from the first game will make a return, looking chic, wearing sexy heels and tights, and showcasing some ample cleavage. But the character that players will control throughout most of the game is a 15-year-old named Jennifer who is working at a creepy old hotel as a housekeeper.
You’ll have to navigate Jennifer through the environment to discover what secrets lie behind the walls, as well as dive into a narrative about the psychopathy that can spawn from a dangerous mixture of religion and science.
In fact, Darril briefly talks about how the game will cover the dangerous side-effects of a certain big pharmacy drug that was designed to help relieve PTSD. It was a topic that they briefly skimmed over in the first game and something that they have plans on returning to in the sequel.
No release date has been set yet for Remothered: Broken Porcelain, but the game is scheduled to release on PC, PS4, Xbox One and the Nintendo Switch.
