Capcom Is Working On A Resident Evil 4 Remake, As Per Reports

Publication site VideoGamesChronicle and Nibel are both reporting that Capcom and M-Two are working on a Resident Evil 4 Remake. The upcoming title has been in development ever since 2018 and has a release window planned for 2022.

For the most part, website videogameschronicle.com has a somewhat decent and notable track record when it comes to rumors. For instance, the website made mention back on December 10th, 2019, that former PlatinumGames CEO Tsutomu Teranishi, in a way, returned to Capcom with ex-PlatinumGames devs to start a new company — M-Two.

As of March 30th, 2020, the publication site carefully looked over Capcom’s Resident Evil 3 Remake and its credits and found that it names a handful of M-Two employees, including designer Teranishi — as well as a couple of ex-PlatinumGames devs.

As of today, videogameschronicle.com and Twitter leaker Nibel both note that Capcom and M-Two are working on a Resident Evil 4 Remake, which is set to go live sometime in 2022.

Report: RESIDENT EVIL 4 REMAKE in the works, development led by M-Two (RE3 remake) with support from Capcom, slated for 2022https://t.co/zkq86iyXtr pic.twitter.com/AKcEO5ikCb

Capcom apparently has approached RE4 mastermind Shinji Mikami to direct the remake but he declined

Also, M-Two actually stands for Mikami-Minami (ex-PlatinumGames head) but looks like that did not pan out https://t.co/9PNq2L7tGM

The reason for this, according to the publication site, is that Resident Evil 4 is Capcom’s “highest-rated game of all-time” as per review aggregation sites, with sales totaling 7.5 million copies across multiple platforms.

The website reports that this new Resident Evil 4 Remake has “entered full production” with an “estimated release window in 2022.”

Development is being led by the Osaka-based M-Two company, as mentioned above, with Teranishi’s partner Tatsuya Minami heading up the studio.

This news didn’t go down all that well with some gamers, with Lack of Entertainment taking digs at the possibility of how the remake might turn out.

Much like Resident Evil 3 Remake‘s development, Capcom’s internal teams and other external studios will “lend support” when it comes to helping with Resident Evil 4 Remake.

Lastly, Shinji Mikami — the original game director for the 2005 game — declined to lead the project himself. However, he has provided “informal advice on its direction.”

After the mess that is Resident Evil 3 Remake, I am not holding my breath on Resident Evil 4 Remake being any good. With that said, what do you think of the above information? Do you think it’s false, or do you think it holds some validity?
