Giraffe And Annika PS4, Switch Release Date Set For August 25th, 2020

Back in mid-February Atelier Mimina and Playism released Giraffe and Annika on Steam for PC. They also announced that the hybrid adventure-rhythm game would be released later in the year for the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. Well, a new trailer dropped indicating that the game is set to arrive on Sony and Nintendo’s system on August 25th, 2020 near the tail end of the summer.

The trailer covers the game’s general gameplay and mechanics, while also revealing that NIS America will be charge of publishing the game on Sony and Nintendo’s systems.

That should send shock waves of fear tumbling down the spines of gamers, given that we know how NIS America can be when it comes to publishing games. So far it looks like the trailer contents are still the same from when the game was originally announced for PC.

The Unreal Engine 4-powered adventure title still also looks a little rough around the edges when it comes to Annika’s animations. I really wish they had smoothed over her movements so they look more natural and less like stilted default movements from the UE4 Asset Store.

Anyway, it’s charming and wholesome game that hearkens back to a time when video games used to be good.

The combat, however, is not quite like typical JRPGs of old. It’s turn-based but instead of relying on selective options you’ll have to defend attacks and launch counter offensives using a rhythm-based music battle system of sorts, not unlike Puuba’s inventive indie title, The Metronomicon.

Annika and Giraffe - Beach Fun

Surprisingly enough to be a lighthearted game Giraffe and Annika has a handful of waifus in the game, sometimes even scantily clad.

I do wonder if they will still be in the home console version or will Sony’s Ethics Department force platform parity by having the fan-service censored?

I guess we’ll find out just how pure will be on Switch and the PS4 when it launches on August 25th. Alternatively, you can get your hands on the game right now from over on the Steam store for $19.99.
