It probably hasn’t escaped reader’s attention despite my coverage of various rumors and potential leaks how I’ve essentially ignored Jason Schreier. This doesn’t occur as a result of a sense of antagonism, an unwillingness to promote or signal boost his work. Rather it occurs because I simply do not consider him a reliable source.
Many forget, but the man is more often wrong than he is right and is notorious for his subsequent backpedaling. Were it not for his connections to Game Journo Pros he would virtually never have anything reliable to share. A fact the Grand Theft Auto community has picked up on as they call him out following his statement that Grand Theft Auto 6 is in early development.
This statement came after he had predicted the announcement for Grand Theft Auto 6 to occur in 2020. In fairness, the majority of his predictions are outright baseless to the point of being delusional, but arguing he wasn’t credible then but is now is a self-defeating argument.
Just look at these predictions. Nintendo’s mid generational console upgrade came out last year. Disney, even before needing $12 billion, had zero interest in moving into the gaming sector and had made this sentiment clear numerous times with their core strategy focusing on rights distribution rather than direct publishing. This happened after they divested from publishing.
One has to wonder where Schreier gets the idea Apple, a company that is not publishing games, but instead operating a platform, will be able to put a game out on PC; or how he thinks Amazon, without announcing a lengthy development, would suddenly be entering the video game streaming industry when they are making bank just selling games.
Finally, the idea of a console less powerful and prone to overheating and performance issues is going to outsell the Xbox Series X is ludicrous. All Microsoft has to do to win this upcoming generation is to keep their mouth shut and release the Series X cheaper than the PS5. Throw in some humility and “we love the players” like Sony did after the PS3 flopped and the money will rain from the sky.
This list is the kind of reporting a person does when they don’t believe in Objective Journalism. Jokingly I say my predictions are based on futures I see as I fondle big anime tiddies, but the reality is they’re well made educated guesses based on observances, patterns, and objective journalism. Something Schreier doesn’t believe in or practice and why I don’t consider him a reliable source.
A sentiment the Grand Theft Auto community has adopted after two reliable past leakers have come forward to dispute Schreier’s claim. Yan2295 is a former leaker who ceased leaking dead accurate GTA Online information after he was asked to by Take-Two. TezFunz2 is a data miner who has achieved some insider connections after a successful data mining career. Both of them have officially gone on record saying the majority of the game’s development is in fact done.
Leslie didn’t work on RDR2. And despite what Jason said, there is absolutely no way GTA 6 is still in early stages.

Naturally, people able to be objective in their analysis of the evidence have turned on Schreier. Denouncing his claims the game is in early development while pointing out how he isn’t reliable and is somewhat of a liar. His defenders in threads are left to begger points, as the majority just mock anyone stupid enough to believe him.
Is Schreier wrong? Undeniable so. Do keep in mind Grand Theft Auto 6 has had a confirmed CGI/Voice Acting work as of 2018. As said then, that is not work done early in development, but work that is carried out well into development. For Jason to be correct this would mean the game’s development opted to record one voice actor’s lines for absolutely no reason, then proceeded to halt development for another two years.
A leak from 2019 cited the undiscovered character in its length. Going into details that would not be as viable if the game just now in the early stages of development.
Regardless of when the announcement comes, let alone what the release date will be, it is very obvious the game is not in early development. Though a rumored an unnamed project will come out in-between now and the release of Grand Theft Auto 6 which gives more credence to a 2021 at the earliest for GTA 6 to come out.
