Jet Lancer, 2D Bullet-Hell Shooter Releases May 12th For Switch, PC

Russian developers Code Wakers and publisher Armor Games Studios announced that the fast-paced, aerial dogfighting game, Jet Lancer, will release on the Nintendo Switch and on Steam and GOG.com for PC, starting May 12th. The game will also be available for the few wankers out there still using Macs as stand-ins for gaming.

Jet Lancer is like the classic Darius or Sopwith games, where you take on the role of an ace fighter pilot in side-scrolling missions. Only, the game is set in the far future and you’re a mercenary for hire who must help take down vicious fighter pilots in intense dogfights, as well as giant mechs terrorizing the people.

You can get a glimpse of what the gameplay is like with the trailer below.

You also get a taste of the game’s soundtrack from Fat Bard in the video above.

The one thing that absolutely stood out to me is that not only are you playing as a female pilot (a rarity in real life) but she’s also a POCker.

The only good thing is that she has red hair, which has become a serious rarity in all forms of media. There’s a disturbing case of erythrophobia circulating through the video game and movie industry as of late, but it is nice to see a redhead pop up during these dire times.

I just wish it wasn’t always attached to what looks like sociopolitically motivated design decisions. It seems like every other game stars a female character and every other game that stars a female character she turns out to be a lesbian.

Anyway, Jet Lancer is due out this spring for Nintendo Switch, PC and Mac. If you’re looking for a bullet-hell shooter on the Switch, you can keep an eye out for the game when it arrives on the Nintendo eShop.
