SnowRunner's “United We Drive” Trailer Gets Emotional

A new trailer for SnowRunner dropped, featuring Raign’s “Don’t Let Me Go”, where Focus Home and Saber Interactive decided to add a bit of emotion to the act of picking things up and delivering them to various locations. The trailer is titled “United We Drive”.

The idea is to convey that there’s more to driving trucks than just driving trucks, attempting to convey that the drivers are doing this for the greater good. The trailer starts with a mother and wife telling her husband that the family understands why he’s doing what he’s doing, and why it’s important for him to be gone in order to help “rebuild America”.

In a saner time this actually would have made for a great story-driven, physics-based Spintires game, but these days I imagine the game would only end up being a hot mess of controversy and Left-wing propaganda. But I digress.

The trailer looks good, and it maybe hints at a possible avenue for a story-oriented version of the MudRunner series assuming Saber decides to go that route. You can check it out below.

In the actual game, there’s no real story fueling the action, it’s just trucks, carters and cargo.

I’m completely okay with the game avoiding any sort of personal campaign missions. Right now SnowRunner is all about landing contracts and rebuilding the world across three different distinct locations.

The free-form, sandbox structure of the missions means that you’re not beholden to following a very strict linear progression.

I imagine in the future Saber might experiment with some kind of story mode, but for now it’s all about the physics and the trucks, so I’m not complaining.

I do have an issue with Saber Interactive putting the game on the Epic Games Store as a timed exclusive. It doesn’t really help anyone and a lot of PC gamers will forget about it in a year’s time.

SnowRunner is due to drop on April 28th, 2020 for Xbox One, PS4, and on the Epic Games Store.

But I’m curious, what would you think of a MudRunner game that was based on the kind of story featured in the trailer? You had to drive various trucks to restore a county after a natural disaster, dealing with harsh dynamic weather, NPCs, and a cinematic plot line?
