Xbox Series S Could Be Revealed Soon, According To Report

For some time now, rumors have been circulating around the web that Microsoft and the Xbox Team will release two next-gen Xbox consoles. We already know about one of the two, which is the Xbox Series X. However, as of today, we now have another report saying that the second console will be a cost-efficient “Xbox Series S” that will be revealed soon.

For the most part, website videogameschronicle.com has a pretty solid track record when it comes to rumors. Nevertheless, given that the following information revolves around rumors, you should take everything that you read here with a grain of salt.

With that said, the publication site notes that the Xbox Series S (codenamed Lockhart) is designed to appeal to “cost-conscious players” and will target “four teraflops of computing power,” lower than the Xbox Series X’s 12 teraflops.

The website also reports that although the Xbox Series S is less powerful than the Xbox Series X, the former console will offer aspects of “the next-gen experience,” unlike the Xbox One, Xbox One S, and Xbox One X.

The report also highlights how game developers are expected to support both the Xbox Series X and the new cost-efficient console. And speaking of support, the website also notes that the Xbox Team is “testing Xbox Series S in their homes.”

If you don’t know, two days ago, screenrant.com and Niko Partner’s analyst Daniel Ahmad said that Microsoft and the Xbox Team made plans to reveal “new consoles and games” soon due to the cancelation of E3 2020:

With E3 cancelled, a lot of the planned reveals / announcements have been moved out of that single week.

Some are now much earlier, others much later. Some still during E3 week ofc.

The first proper next gen console/games showcase is much earlier too.

This is the one time I will actually add a caveat, for the last sentence in this case, as we are living through an unprecedented situation and this is the one time where external factors such as COVID-19 could actually change plans right at the last minute. But we’ll see.

Given that Microsoft is gearing up to stop special editions of the Xbox One X, Ahmad believes the 2017 device will be discontinued to make room for the Xbox Series X and the new Xbox Series S.

Lastly, time will tell if Microsoft and the Xbox Team will unveil the Xbox Series S or detail the price of the Xbox Series X sometime around or beyond this summer.
