Call Of The Sea, Lovecraftian Mystery-Adventure Game Heads To Xbox Series X, PC This Fall

Out of the Blue and Raw Fury announced a new game for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X called Call of the Sea. It’s a mystery-adventure game themed around exploration and puzzle-solving set in an isolated island off the South Pacific.

The development team, comprised of just 12 veterans from Spain, Greece, and the U.S., have constructed a game centered around a desperate (and seemingly dying) woman during the 1930s who decides to spend what time she has left to go searching for her missing husband.

I can’t tell you how relieved I was to find that it was a female lead who was actually heterosexual for once! Not only that but the story is driven by her love for her husband. In [current year]? That seems preposterous.

Anyway, the game follows a woman’s call to the sea, tracking the final clues her husband left behind in order to discover his whereabouts. You can get a glimpse of some of the cinematics and in-engine sequences below.

This was one of the many games that the Xbox team showcased during the Inside Xbox event on May 7th.

The game is very much set within the Lovecraftian universe themed around the Deep Ones. This particular story seems to involve a married couple’s transformation into a follower of Father Dagon.

While the beginning parts of the trailer look like some kind of tropical walking-sim, the latter parts of the trailer reveals that she eventually turns into a fish creature.

Unlike other Lovecraftian tales this doesn’t dive deep into the horror aspects of the lore, but instead takes a different approach to the lore, opposite of other tales about the Deep Ones such as Stuart Gordon’s Dagon, The Sinking City or Conarium.

We didn’t get to see any of the puzzles or the actual gameplay for Call of the Sea, which is a shame, but I’m sure the details are coming soon just ahead of the game’s release this fall.
