Russian developer Nekki announced that they have a brand new cross-platform PvP game in the works featuring gun-fu and a visually engaging cyberpunk atmosphere called Spine. Not much about the game has been revealed, but they did drop a new cinematic teaser trailer that absolutely feels like it has the potential to provide us with a true cyberpunk experience that isn’t steeped in Liberal degeneracy, unlike a certain other game.
The teaser trailer is only half a minute long, and it features a cool, armored up warrior with a sword in one hand and gun in the other. The focus on the trailer is on his spine-powered exo-suit that lights up, giving him super human abilities.
Before we get to see any of those abilities on display, the trailer cuts off.
As far as the atmosphere is concerned, this looks the way cyberpunk should.
There are big, bright lights everywhere; the city looks as if its draped in corporate advertisements and the bombardment of in-your-face consumerism, where a gluttony of bourgeoisie excess meets street-level super crime.
Of course, we have no idea how these aesthetic ideas will be explored on a gameplay level, and all we’re really left with is conceptual ideas put on display in a cinematic teaser.
It’s sexy, no doubt. But will it have substance?
Reikon proved that they could do a lot with a little when they released Ruiner for home consoles and PC, so now we’ll see if the makers of cult-classics such as Vector can lean into AA-class territory with a game that’s hopefully bigger and better than the typical mobile-oriented fanfare they’ve been producing for the last nine years.
If this plays half as good as the cinematic looks, then I’m all in.
