Wizards of the Coast will be censoring a number of cards from the Magic: The Gathering database that they consider to be “culturally offensive” or “racist”.
The company made a blog post on June 10th, 2020 about the censorship that they’ll be enacting on older cards and images.
They explained…
“Today, we will be changing the multiverse ID and removing the Gatherer card image for the card Invoke Prejudice, originally printed in 1994. The card is racist and made even worse by the multiverse ID it was unfortunately codified with years ago. There’s no place for racism in our game, nor anywhere else.
“But to that point, it should never have been published nor placed in the Gatherer. And for that we are sorry. The events of the past weeks and the ongoing conversation about how we can better support people of color have caused us to examine ourselves, our actions, and our inactions. We appreciate everyone helping us to recognize when we fall short. We should have been better, we can be better, and we will be better.”

That’s not the only card being replaced, though.

This ended up getting picked up by YouTuber MtgLion who did a video about it.
The tweet replies to this particular move was filled with longtime fans and gamers incensed at the fact that some of the cards will be retroactively censored to accommodate the snowflake plebeians that roam around in the lower ranks of the Intersectional Inquisition.
Actually banning the cards from play is such a childish, irrational decision. But it’s been obvious for a while that the quality of the game is not your first priority.

Why would I buy product again knowing that it could be censored at any time? I can already see the smug commentors and Wizards employees calling my post and I racist. Jihad being banned in particular is particularly heinous as it seems to imply a certain want for history erasure.

But it gets worse.
They will also be adding disclaimers to the “offending” cards. The disclaimer reads…
“We have removed this card image from our database due to its racist depiction, text, or combination thereof. Racism in any form is unacceptable and has no place in our games, nor anywhere else.”
But that’s not all!
Yes… it gets EVEN worse.
They will be banning these cards from tournament play.
The blog post rounds out by saying…
“Additionally, these cards will be banned in all sanctioned tournament play.
“There’s much more work to be done as we continue to make our games, communities, and company more inclusive. Know that we work every day to be better and that we hear you. We look forward to sharing more of our plans with you as our games and organization evolve.”
So there you have it.
A handful of cards are now banned from play and are being censored to accommodate the history-altering standards of the Intersectional Inquisition.
Expect more games to apply similar measures of censorship as the Regressive Left continues to spread their tendrils over every aspect of media.
