Publishing Staff Attempts to Cancel J.K. Rowling

Author J.K. Rowling continues to find herself in the spotlight following a “”” controversial””” tweet she made mocking an LGBT article for attempting to erase the identity of women.

‘People who menstruate.’ I’m sure there used to be a word for those people. Someone help me out. Wumben? Wimpund? Woomud?

Afterward, in a series of tweets documented by The India Express,  she would go on to clarify how she was not anti-transgender, but that some notions activists are pushing erase the plight and identity of women everywhere. Naturally, she included the mandatory homages of how men are evil, and the LGBT community is just as victimized by societal discrimination as women are. Despite neither group facing any discrimination or impediment to voice said malicious statements towards their imagined oppressors.

“If sex isn’t real, there’s no same-sex attraction. If sex isn’t real, the lived reality of women globally is erased. I know and love trans people, but erasing the concept of sex removes the ability of many to meaningfully discuss their lives. It isn’t hate to speak the truth. The idea that women like me, who’ve been empathetic to trans people for decades, feeling kinship because they’re vulnerable in the same way as women – ie, to male violence – ‘hate’ trans people because they think sex is real and has lived consequences – is a nonsense.”

“I respect every trans person’s right to live any way that feels authentic and comfortable to them. I’d march with you if you were discriminated against on the basis of being trans. At the same time, my life has been shaped by being female. I do not believe it’s hateful to say so.”

Said clarification has had little impact on stemming the tide of the backlash she faced from LGBT proponents and activists. Now according to the Daily Mail, employees at Hachette, her publisher, are threatening to strike unless they drop her over her “transphobic views.”

‘Staff in the children’s department at Hachette announced they were no longer prepared to work on the book. ‘They said they were opposed to her comments and wanted to show support for the trans lobby. These staff are all very “woke”, mainly in their twenties and early thirties, and apparently it is an issue they feel very strongly about.”

Hatchet responded to the controversy with a statement endorsing freedom of speech as one of their core values. Yet they would never force an employee to work on a book that they found upsetting. On the surface, this stance would appear rather noble until one learns the first two chapters of Ickabog garnered 5 million views within the first 24 hours back in May when they were released.

‘We are proud to publish JK Rowling’s children’s fairy tale The Ickabog. Freedom of speech is the cornerstone of publishing. We fundamentally believe that everyone has the right to express their own thoughts and beliefs. That’s why we never comment on our authors’ personal views and we respect our employees’ right to hold a different view.

‘We will never make our employees work on a book whose content they find upsetting for personal reasons, but we draw a distinction between that and refusing to work on a book because they disagree with an author’s views outside their writing, which runs contrary to our belief in free speech.’

It is rather difficult to feel sorry for J.K. Rowling. As an activist, though she has spoken out against cancel culture repeatedly, she has also promoted the very class that wishes to cancel people. That they now turn with renewed vigor to cancel her is no surprise. Yet, in the face of this, she continues to perpetuate far-leftist talking points and give credence to their stances. Depressingly her critics have a point. If you believe transgenderism is real, then men can become women. You cannot have it both ways, but to suggest otherwise is an outright attack against the Transgender Community. As insane as that may sound, it is what those attempting to cancel her are now claiming.

“What JK Rowling is saying is harmful and dangerous and the trans and non-binary witches and wizards deserve to feel welcomed and loved in the Harry Potter community dammit!!!!” –Tessa Netting

Transgender women are women. Any statement to the contrary erases the identity and dignity of transgender people and goes against all advice given by professional health care associations who have far more expertise on this subject matter than either Jo or I. According to The Trevor Project, 78% of transgender and nonbinary youth reported being the subject of discrimination due to their gender identity. It’s clear that we need to do more to support transgender and nonbinary people, not invalidate their identities, and not cause further harm.” Daniel Radcliffe, In responding to J.K. Rowling’s Tweets.

The reality of the political situation is a simple matter of logic. If you recognize that trans-women are not the same as biological women, stating in the process that biology builds men and women differently, then you are by default shattering the illusion that a person can with current technology transition between genders. What you are saying is they will never reach that end goal, that they are forever a freak of nature.

Of course, this entire issue is insane, but J.K. Rowling needs to accept that she either can advocate for feminism or she can support for LBGT activism. You cannot advocate for both simultaneously as they are diametrically opposed at the core of their ideologies. She either has to acknowledge LGBT activism is wrong, or she needs to consign herself to the reality that her identity as a woman is irrelevant on the progressive stack.

Meanwhile, we’ll just sit back with the popcorn and watch the left eat itself.
