The Last Of Us: Part 3 Could Be The Next Thing, Teases Neil Druckmann

Despite The Last of Us: Part 2 stirring up controversy, it looks like the creative director and vice president of Naughty Dog, Neil Druckmann — who is on the Traitors of America master list — already has ideas for The Last of Us: Part 3. In a recent interview, Druckmann teases how he has plans for a third installment in the ongoing series as well as some ideas for a new IP.

Sony and Naughty Dog have released The Last of Us: Part 2 not too long ago, but before the release of the eye-brow raising title comes news that a third game might happen after all.

Although the second game ended with Abby and Lev leaving by boat to probably reach the remnant of Fireflies in Santa Barbara, the game also shows an unsettled Ellie walking away from the farmhouse to an unknown location before the credits roll.

In addition to the above, Druckmann took up an interview during the early part of June and told GQ’s Sam White what he’s been thinking so far. Thanks to website inverse.com, you can read Druckmann’s latest ideas right here:

“As you start wrapping things up, creatively there are fewer and fewer responsibilities and my mind can’t help but think about the next thing. So, yeah, the next thing could be a Part III, the next thing could be some new IP.”

The website follows up on Druckmann’s quote with the following analysis:

“At a glance, Druckmann’s comments also suggest something about the ending of The Last of Us Part II — not so much what happens, but what doesn’t happen. If Part III is top of mind for Druckmann, this seems to suggest that the Cordyceps infection isn’t eliminated or brought under control by the end of the second game. That’s been pretty well telegraphed by the game’s trailers so far, but it’s pretty clear TLOU 2 isn’t going to have the kind of happily ever after ending that Nathan Drake found at the end of Uncharted 4.”

Likewise, The Last of Us: Part 2 does not have a “happy” ending due to the series taking notes from David Benioff’s 2008 book City of Thieves (Benioff is also the guy that worked with D. B. Weiss on a Game of Thrones’ ending). Additionally, back on December 21st, 2019, Druckmann found Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker to be a work of art:

With all of that said, if Druckmann and crew are going to make a third Last of Us game, or for that matter a new IP, expect it to drop for PS5 while taking cues from Benioff’s work (like City of Thieves and Game of Thrones) or Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
