Amazon Bans More Japanese Light Novels, Mangas

Even more light novels and mangas have been banned from Amazon — who is on the Traitors of America master list — following up on the e-tailer purging their stock of No Game, No Life and M Next Life As A Villainess. According to J-Novel Club, Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash has been banned, along with The Greatest Magicmaster’s Retirement Plan, I Shall Survive Using Potions, How Not to Summon a Demon Lord and Clockwork Planet.

The news was confirmed by J-Novel Club when they contacted Amazon about the issue and then conveyed the information to their followers on July 13th, 2020.

We have received no notification whatsoever about this, and only noticed due to user complaints. Also, all preorders for Magicmaster 6 were forcibly cancelled today. After calling up Amazon, they said the books were removed from sale by Kindle Content Review but couldn’t say why

It’s true.

If you check the listings for each of the aforementioned mangas and light novels, some of them are no longer available for purchase from Amazon.

I Shall Survive Using Potions!‘s light novel series has been removed from Amazon. If you check the store page archive it now shows that the title is no longer available for purchase.

If you check The Greatest Magicmaster’s Retirement Plan on Amazon, it too has been removed from the store, with a notice saying it’s no longer available for purchase. This is despite the fact that it had been distributed through Amazon for the past year, since May 14th, 2019.

The light novel series for How Not To Summon A Demon Lord has been axed from Amazon as well. J-Novel originally published it for distribution through Amazon back on December 4th, 2017, but Amazon decided to ban it from their storefront since July 11th, 2020.

Clockwork Planet‘s light novel series was also culled from being distributed on Amazon, even though it’s been available for purchase since August 10th, 2017 without any prior problems.

The only upside to Clockwork Planet is that the manga is still available for purchase on Amazon, even though the light novels aren’t. However, given Amazon’s current propensity for targeting Japanese-style fiction themed around anime and manga, don’t be surprised if the manga series gets axed sometime soon, too.

Other series that were supposed to be available on Amazon were also banned, such as the light novels for Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash. If you visit the Amazon store page you’ll be greeted with a big white page and a notice informing you that they couldn’t find what you were looking for.

J-Novel, however, did offer alternatives for acquiring the light novels and mangas that have been banned from Amazon.

You can still acquire Japanese e-books from Book Walker.

Alternatively, you can purchase physical mangas from Rightstuf Anime.

We’d like to remind everyone that ALL our books are for sale on @BOOKWALKER_GL , @nookBN , @kobo , @iTunes , @GooglePlay , @OverDriveLibs as well as premium epubs directly from our site at https://t.co/WZxdfiTuzf for members!

Take note: These are only the light novels and mangas that J-Novel and others were made aware of as being banned. There are also plenty of other properties out there silently getting removed under Amazon’s selective curation.

In other words, it won’t end here. The censorship will continue to escalate.

Essentially they’ll keep targeting mangas, light novels, and soon OVAs.

Centrists™ will continue to make excuses for the censorship all while it keeps ramping up.

We’re seeing similar kinds of censorship from Sony with their censorship policies and Valve with theirinconsistent enforcement of bans on R18+ games.

One thing that has been consistent with the bans is that typically all these outfits have been targeting media that’s popular with straight male audiences. Fiction with chiefly heterosexual relationships, or media featuring fan-service of female characters, or stories that have no Left-wing propaganda are the ones that we’ve noticed are being targeted most, especially when you break down the censorship of properties across Amazon, Sony, and Steam.

We’ve noticed the pattern and how there’s been an aggressive push to limit access to certain kinds of media. The writing is on the wall if you pay any modicum of attention to the irrefutable evidence gathered from the facts.
