One of the biggest sales surprises for Koei Tecmo was Gust’s Atelier Ryza: Ewver Darkness & The Secret Hideout, which managed to move 350,000 copies from the fall of 2019 to February of 2020, and then later it was confirmed that the game had managed to move 420,000 copies by April of 2020.
Following on that undeniable success, it didn’t take long for the executives to greenlight a sequel, and greenlight a sequel they did. According to NME, Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & The Secret Fairy is in development and will be making its way to the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and on Steam for PC.
A teaser trailer was released during the Nintendo Direct-Mini that aired in Japan on July 20th, 2020. You can check out the teaser below, courtesy of GamersPrey.
The trailer reveals lots of new additions to the game, including the ability to grapple-hook to new areas, swim under water, and also use pets to traverse quickly around the new environments.
The alchemy system returns, allowing gamers to acquire ingredients they pick up from around the game world and combine them to create all new potions, remedies, and buffs. Now that new biomes have been added this means there are all new ingredients to acquire and all new alchemy spells to master.
They also slightly modified Ryza’s outfit, but still made sure to keep a strong focus on the shapeliness of her thighs, which was one of the strong selling points for the first game.
Koei Tecmo is already moving along rather quickly, and have plans to unveil the new web portal for Atelier Ryza 2 at the end of the month on July 29th, 2020.
A teaser site has been setup on the official Koei Tecmo America page, counting down until they officially reveal more info for Atelier Ryza 2.
No release date has been set yet for the game, but it looks like it’s already far enough along that it could end up releasing before 2020 is out, but I would expect that a proper release should be set for 2021.
