It should come in as no surprise that Valve can’t count to three. With that in mind, the company known for its taste police and forum lockdowns is thinking about creating a new Half-Life game for home consoles that will discover the universe of said franchise.
Folks interested in this new project should know that it’s not Half-Life 3, assuming the team sees this project through to the end. What is likely to come out of Valve is more games that explore “different gameplay” avenues in the Half-Life universe.
Moreover, on November 23rd, 2019, Valve’s David Speyrer told social justice website The Verge during an interview that gamers and fans alike should expect the team to make a full return to the series thanks to Half-Life: Alyx:
“It’s probably no surprise that many people at Valve have been wanting to get back to the Half-Life universe for a long time, and this experience [Half-Life: Alyx] has only reinforced that.
In the process of creating Half-Life: Alyx, we’ve had to explore new ways to tell stories with these characters and this world, and we’ve discovered a lot of new gameplay experiences that go beyond what we’ve been able to do before.
Of course, we’ll have to wait and see how people react to Half-Life: Alyx once it’s out, but we’d love to continue pushing forward.”
With that said, website gamesindustry.biz reports on Half-Life: Alyx – Final Hours, which is a fifteen-chapter article accessible via an app on Steam. The report covers Geoff Keighley providing a look at the development of Half-Life: Alyx, VR, Half-Life 2: Episode 2, and more.
The most interesting part about Half-Life: Alyx – Final Hours is a section that goes on about wanting to make a console game (that will likely release for PS5 and Xbox Series X) in the Half-Life universe. Here’s an excerpt from the publication citing a dev from Valve saying the following:
“This ice has been broken, now we’re hoping to smash through the ice completely. We’re not afraid of Half-Life no more.”
With that said, it’s unclear if this game will release for current-gen consoles, next-gen, or both. However, what is certain is that the devs are thinking about making a new Half-Life game.
