Rumor Watch: George Lucas Returning to Helm LucasFilm

Finally, Star Wars has a potentially bright future ahead of it. According to sources who reached out to Doomcock, investors and Disney have convinced George Lucas to return and helm LucasFilm after Kennedy’s departure. A departure that will occur before her contract expires and will be announced later this year.

What makes me believe the rumor is how Lucas utilized one of the Rules of Power in order to gain precisely what he wanted. When Disney’s negotiators and investors approach him about returning, he would waver and refuse to give them a commitment on the matter. He knew the longer he held out, the more desperate they became.

Finally, Disney’s negotiators directly confronted Lucas and asked him to return and what it would take to make this happen. Without missing a beat, according to the rumor, he said there were four conditions for his return, and they were non-negotiable.

1) Lucas gets to make the sequel trilogy that Iger disregarded.

2) Lucas will have full creative power until he decides to hand it off.

3) Kathleen Kennedy is gone.

4) Disney must agree to never again mess with the original trilogy again. It will remain untouched forever.

It didn’t take but an instant for Disney to agree to all four conditions. Inquiring as to when he can start.

Later another insider would reach out to Doomcock and state that the story he put up was indeed what had transpired. That Lucas was returning.

UPDATE: I just got confirmation from two sources that this video is SPOT ON. One said: “You have NO IDEA HOW CLOSE you are to the truth”! Rumor Analysis: Maybe

Disney is straight-up broke and heading for serious financial issues. For the longest time, the company was sustained by its parks division, a division that is now shut down or facing liquidation. Owing to diplomatic and legal actions underway against the Chinese regime and the current lockdowns.

Disney is not a company that can afford another two years of Kennedy. With every report, we learn of repeated attempts to interject series destroying intellectual dogma. This goes so far that she’s willing to make Boba Fett female in the third season of the Mandalorian.

There is no doubt Disney wants her and her loyalists gone. Not because of a sudden ideological split between management and Kennedy, but because they cannot afford to have her destroy the franchise through 2021. Leaving the only question to be whether or not Lucas will return to helm Lucas Film after her departure.

Whether he will or not is debatable. It is all but confirmed he was brought in to develop a cut of Rise of Skywalker that salvaged that dumpster inferno. He is also currently working with Filoni and Favreau on the second season of The Mandalorian. Lucas is clearly involved with the franchise, and investors have met with him.

That doesn’t mean he will return as studio head. He could return as an executive producer, adviser, or some other high-level position, but not as the central lead controlling the future of Star Wars.

What is believable about the conditions is the first allows him to show Iger’s discarding of his sequel trilogy was a mistake. When it succeeds, it will be the ultimate repudiation of everything Iger had decided for Star Wars. Complete creative control will empower Lucas to declare any subversive work Kennedy produced as non-canon. No need for the veil of the force, no need to retcon the original movies. Just a simple declaration that the Kennedy verse is not canon.

Demanding they never touch the original movies again would be a welcome relief. This means no more Solo tier spin-offs, no more destroying established canon and characters. All Star Wars going forward would be new Star Wars. Kennedy being kicked out, well that’s self-explanatory and as stated was likely already happening.

Chips down, gun to my head, I’d say he’s returning. The investors need him back, the truly passionate creators that remain at LucasFilm want him back and are working with him, and his return is the only thing that would bring many fans back to the Galaxy Far, Far Away. The only thing that would stand in his way is Iger, who, according to another insider, may threaten to quit the company if they divest from his legacy.

At this juncture, if he does, I’d wager investors would just tell him not to let the door hit him in the arse on the way out.
