The Long Gate, Experimental First-Person Puzzler Announced

David Shaw is heading up a brand new game that’s nothing like anything on the market at the moment. His latest project is called The Long Gate, which is being published by Inductance and set for release at some point before the summer is out.

The announcement for the first-person puzzler was accompanied by an announcement trailer that’s almost impossible to properly describe. The only thing that I can adequately say is that you’ll have to solve a variety of puzzles using logic, item placements, slides and dials.

It reminds me of those classic PC sci-fi games from the 1990s, like Alien Legacy fused in with The Talos Principle. You can get a glimpse of what the gameplay is like with the trailer below.

According to the Steam page, the puzzles are all based on real-world science and technology. It states…

“Nearly all of The Long Gate’s puzzles are based on real world technologies, and it contains accurate depictions of quantum circuits and a 4-bit quantum computer, verified by scientists at D-Wave Systems, the world’s first commercial quantum computer company. To progress through the game, you will intuitively learn the engineering principles that form the backbones of the puzzles.”

This game reminds me so much of Ice-Pick Lodge’s The Void, just without all the naked ladies and bizarre creatures.

We used to get these kind of weird, otherworldly, visual spectacles quite frequently in the world of PC gaming when 3D became bog-standard and artists were able to manipulate and experiment particle effects back in the late 90s and early aughts.

Hopefully The Long Gate is as fun to play as it is to gaze upon.

You can look for the title to arrive over on the Steam store at some point during the summer. In the meantime you can wishlist or follow the game for more info.
