High Fidelity's Race-Swapped Remake Got Woke And Went Broke

Companies can’t help but bide the hand of bankruptcy by constantly churning out one woke product after another. For them, it’s not about the money it’s about the message. Disney is exhibiting that this is their methodology heading into every single one of their new projects, each one seemingly failing harder than the next, with their reboot of the 2000 romantic comedy High Fidelity, starring John Cusack, being a perfect example of that.

Bounding Into Comics is reporting that the once Hulu-held series is on Hulu no longer. After being announced in 2018 and debuting in early 2020, High Fidelity had its production cancelled after just 10 episodes.

The show – which was based on a movie that was originally based on a novel by Nick Hornby – barely made a blip on the streaming map, much less garner much attention in the pop-culture scene.

The show’s lead, Zoe Kravitz, acknowledged the cancellation on her Instagram account on August 6th, 2020, writing…

“i wanna give a shout out to my #highfidelity family. thank you for all the love and heart you put into this show. i’m in awe of all of you. and thank you to everyone who watched, loved and supported us. ✌🏽 #breakupssuck [sic]”

It’s easy to see why the show didn’t make a dent anywhere, despite the high praise from Rotten Tomatoes, where it sits at an 86% “Fresh” rating.

The Disney reboot sold itself on the concept of being a race-swapped, orientation-swapped and gender-swapped rendition of the John Cusack cult classic, this time starring Zoe Kravitz.

Essentially, they extricated the original demographic who may have been interested in it by targeting a demographic who had (and still have) no interest in the property, hence the reason the ratings tanked and the show was cancelled.

It won’t end here, though.

They will keep trying and trying again, no matter how much money they burn through.

The idea is that eventually they will batter viewers, consumers, and plebeians over the head so much and so often with the propaganda that there won’t be anywhere to escape to.

We’ve already seen it in the gaming industry where gamers have been conditioned to accept hideous female characters in AAA games, and even go so far as to defend the studio’s choice to de-sexualize female characters while keeping male characters idealized and sexualized.

Comic book fans were smart enough to fund their own comics via IndieGoGo and Kickstarter, but gamers have just sat back and watched (or worse yet, partaken in) the industry’s destruction.

Movie and television aficionados seem to be holding out for now, but it won’t be long before they’ll start justifying race and gender-swaps, and maybe even start defending the corporation’s deep dive into subversive propaganda.

But thankfully that day isn’t here quite yet. For now, High Fidelity is yet another property that bit the bullet and is now on the Get Woke, Go Broke master list.
