Sony Outlines What PS4 Peripherals And Accessories Will Work With PS5

In a recent PlayStation blog post, it’s been announced that certain PS4 peripherals and accessories won’t work with Sony’s next-gen console. With that said, many people are confused right now when it comes to PS4 and PS5 compatibility.

If you want the short answer as to whether or not the PS4 controller will work with the PS5, it’s safe to say yes, but no. Yes, the PS4 Dualshock will be able to play PS4 games on the PS5, but the current-gen PS4 controller will not work when playing PS5 games on a PS5.

In other words, Sony Interactive Entertainment or SIE wants the PS5’s new features to shine when playing games on the company’s forthcoming console, which means that the current-gen PlayStation controller is restricted to playing PS4 games on a PS5.

With that out of the way, you can check out what other peripherals and accessories are compatible with PS5 at launch courtesy of blog.playstation.com:

Which existing PS4 peripherals/accessories will work on PS5?

  • Specialty peripherals, such as officially licensed racing wheels, arcade sticks, and flight sticks, will work with PS5 games and supported PS4 games.
  • The Platinum and Gold Wireless Headsets, as well as third-party headsets that connect via USB port or audio jack, will work on PS5 (the headset companion app is not compatible with PS5).
  • The DualShock 4 wireless controller and PlayStation officially licensed third-party gamepad controllers will work with supported PS4 games.
  • Both the PS Move Motion Controllers and the PlayStation VR Aim Controller will work with supported PS VR games on PS5.
  • PlayStation Camera will work with PS5 for playing supported PS VR games. It will require a PlayStation Camera adaptor that will be provided at no additional cost to PS VR users.

Lastly, the PS5 is set to make its debut later this year during the holiday season, which will take place in the fourth quarter of 2020.
