Razer Apologizes For Posting Ugandan Knuckles Meme

The gaming peripheral company, Razer, recently posted up a tweet that shared an image someone made of the Ugandan Knuckles meme. The meme gained notoriety and fame through a VR chat session where the videos of the Knuckles meme went viral. Well, Razer’s mishap resulted in them being attacked by the Social Justice Warrior faction of Twitter, and they were forced to apologize after Polygon’s Chris Plante came after them.

For those of you unfamiliar with Ugandan Knuckles, Stahlsby has a video compilation that gives you a good idea of what the meme is about.

Razer ended up tweeting out an image of the meme, and Chris Plante from Polygon reproached them for sharing the image.

Journalist Brad Glasgow captured the exchange.

Imagine that. Thank god we have Polygon policing memes. pic.twitter.com/kh9voYu96c

The original tweet from Plante is below.

Two ways to read this tweet and reply:

1. @Razer thinks it’s hip and young, and is smugly doubling down on something it doesn’t understand.

2. Razer is bandwagoning a racist meme, and is being a jerk to someone plainly questioning that decision.

Both are terrible looks. pic.twitter.com/xeDN2umvg5

After being whipped across the face with the flaccid appendage of soy-fueled indignation from the Intersectional Inquisition, Razer promptly apologized by posting the following tweet on January 27th, 2018.

We will endeavor to be more mindful of memes in the future and we thank those whom have brought it to our attention.⁰⁰Be cool to each other online, and IRL. That is truly the way.

If you’re unable to read the tweet, the Razer social media manager stated…

“We shared a tweet from a member of our community. It was highlighted to us that the meme shared may have negative undertones.⁰⁰We reached out to the user who clarified he was unaware of the connotations and had no ill-will. Both parties decided it best to remove the content.

“We will endeavor to be more mindful of memes in the future and we thank those whom have brought it to our attention.⁰⁰Be cool to each other online, and IRL. That is truly the way.”

The tweet was deleted to assuage those who were offended by the tweet, or those who were offended on behalf of those that they claim were offended at the idea of the tweet existing.

Razer hasn’t been the only company to take action against the Ugandan Knuckles meme. The developers at Roblox also banned the Ugandan Knuckles meme for being racist.

Social Justice Warriors have determined some memes are unfit to be funny, and therefore people aren’t allowed to share them or allow themselves to be entertained by them.
